  • Well after finding out we should have been getting Income Support, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit and a special allowance for being carers we have now put in our claims. Apparently we have been entitled to it for the last six years - but of course we didn't know!

They wont backdate it, but with the extra amounts coming in we can start making headway clearing the debts. Having said that I am still wondering if only I, as opposed to both of us, should still declare myself BR, though my OH would rather I didn't, as it still leaves things incredibly tight.

So although I am so relieved not to be in court today, it might still happen if it transpires we can't keep up with the payments.

But all the very best wishes for all those going through it.

Hi Dorothy, glad you are going to have some extra income coming in, that's good.

If you are not sure BR is the best option yet - sit down and do a proper budget again with the new income and then you will see clearly if you will be able to manage or not.

remember though that BR is a personal thing, do what is the right thing for yourself, not what anyone else thinks that you should do. you have to consider how having the debt will affect you emotionally and financially. And if you can cope paying it off then well done and get onto cccs or payplan and see about setting up a dmp to your creditors.

    Hi
Thank you for your good wishes.

I have set up my own DMP with all the crediors - done the same as a DMP with %ages pro rata to what our budget is for repayments. So far everyone has said yes - just waiting on one more.

It will be manageable once all the benefits are in place - it's just that it was me who created the debt - not my OH or children and I do feel enormous guilt that they are - in effect - paying for me.

Just have to wait and see how it pans out....

I will not be disapearing from the forum though - so many iof you guys have just been so amazingly unselfish in giving your time to support me through all this.

Hugest of hugs to you all

Don't feel guilty - you are sorting it out so don't worry.

I created my own debt - trouble was it was things spent on my OH and children that made up some of it! I took the debt out but it wasn't just me it got spent on - I had a hard time saying no to my OH when he saw something that he would like to have or have for the kids. As for the stuff I spent on the kids - all my fault! :o:o

But that is the past and no point in your dwelling on it Dotty! Just set the dmp and let it run and forget about it as much as you can.

Glad you will be sticking around :j , take care.

    Good Morning everyone,

Back on the board after "taking a rest" yesterday thanks to a fly in the ointment who just kept on bugging me. Anyway nuff said, only one more to go and the forum should be back to what it is supposed to be - designed to help and support.
Working a fairly normal day today of 9 - 5 and trying to get out of working tomorrow. I shall put on my desperate face today and see if it works...
Payday on Tuesday - hooray..... it will be the first time in years that I will have a bit extra and it is before my OR interview. On the shopping list are new glasses, renew my passport and a couple of bits for the car. The sort of stuff that will be hard to afford in the next few months.
I don't know why but I am feeling a bit low at the moment - I should be feeling great but I don't - anyone else like this after BR? It is like there is something missing - oh well I am sure it will pass.....
Anyway, to those of you with the weekend off, have a good one and I hope the weather is a bit better for you. To those of you working, like me, make sure it is not too hard!
A big wave to you all.....
