I'm long term sick, live alone (widow), 55yrs old and on income support, because a previous employer didnt pay my NI contributions so can't get incapacity benefit, so I only get £56 a week to live on (they stop £4 a week as I get £4 a week private pension). I can't get DLA as they say as I dont need someone to come in and get me out of bed, wash me and dress me, or cook meals for me I'm not entitled to it.

As I dont have a child under 5 living here, I'm not entitled to the cold weather payment, so I can't afford to heat my home now the weathers cold. I've contacted my MP and CAB and the benefits people, and I'm not entitled to any extra payment.

There's going to be a lot of people die this winter from hyperthermia, and I'll probably be one of them.

    This Government makes me sick!

I'm not the only single person in this situation, but the Govt isn't interested in helping if you don't have children and not over 60. It's a ridiculous system.
My husband is long term sick and under 60 and we don't have any children under 5 but he still gets the cold weather payment.

He gets incapacity benefit that's topped up with Income Support but I think he gets the cold weather payment because he has a disability premium on his income support.

I was just browsing this board for an explanation as to why I got a payment of £25 from DWP. Looks like I found my answer.lol.

It's the first time I've ever had it, so I was slightly wary at first. Guess I have no need to be now. XD

    Hyper means too much.

    Hypo means too little.

What you really mean is hypothermia.

    See: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/disabledpeople/financialsupport/dg_10011731

This talks about 'needing help with personal care' but at no stage does it mention having to be got out of bed, washed and dressed by someone else.

I know someone who is on full rate DLA with mobility component who drives and does an office job.
