The lady who posted this recipe is called Dede and I believe she invented it herself. I have a photo of hers I just have to work out how to post it. I use dark vinegar because thats what I have in so mine is a darker colour.
    Grandma.

Thank you very much. Much appreciated.:T I will give it a try as soon as I have the ingredients in.

I wish I could help with the attachments but I am new to the site and it seems to want an url for it. Sorry :o

Hiya i think i'd like to give this challenge a go please. I'm not sure what we have left after paying bills and such but i reckon it's not much more than £4000 anyway.
My 2 main reasons for wanting to take part in this challenge are...

I want to be debt free by the end of 2009
    And
I want to continue NOT using my credit cards or h/p for ANYTHING.

I'll go and do my sums and i'll report back with my total for the year.
    £387.39/£196.46
Pay my debt by End of Feb 2022
    49.28% paid!

£199.55/£500 savings by End of April 2022
    39.91% saved!

    Make £2022 in 2022 - £20

    :j oooooohhhhh Grandma247 -I may just have decided I LOVE you :D

I have always made coleslaw (the mayo version)...however I am totally addicted to the german "fresh Kraut salat" and keep looking for recipes -which keep saying you steam the cabbage (which I know isn't like the ones I get out here)
and blow me if that recipe you have just posted -looks like it will be right :j ..right down to the fresh peppers .... Im going to try this and if its anywhere near as nice as the one I buy -I will love you forever :p ..
Its about €1.79 afor a 500g tub and if it wasn't for the price I could easily clear a tub a week :o ..so if its right that will be a lot of money saved :T
I can't imagine how it will be after freezing ...but if its as nice as the stuff I buy -I will just keep big bowls of i in the fridge :D

  • Now you have to bear with me since I am not very good at this whole frugal lark! But I was very proud of myself today!

We don't really do Christmas at out house any more but i always make sure we have a little tree (a real one) so it looks a bit Christmassy.

I normally buy one of those baskets from M and S or Sainsburys for 10-15 quid.

So I went looking today and found some nice ones in both shops but it dawned on me standing outside the petshop (having just been to the florists and nearly fainted at the price 25.99 for three plants in basket and a ribbon!) that the individual plants were much cheaper......... (yes I know that is obvious to you experts:o ;) )

The lady in the pet shop must have thought me slightly bonkers, I was out side for ages looking at these trees! (and Ivy and daffodilsand some funny looking purple plant) and then went back to see exactly what the m and S ones had in them and adding in my head the prices.

so I got a tree, about 8" high (!) and some Ivy and some daffodils (total cost 5.24) from the petshop and I have a big flower pot here which I shall cover in wrapping paper and ribbon. Much better then paying a ridiculous price from the supermarket(I can't believe anyone would paid the prices in the florist )
and we have our Christmas tree! With a bit of luck since they are all out door plants I should be able to keep it for next year too!

I did go a little nuts in Sainsburys later but I used my nectar points so it wasn't so bad!

it may not seem much ladies but its a start!!

    xxx
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Well done, Buffy! :j Here's to frunchkin power and frugalisation!

Welcome Nickynoo08, I've now added your name to post 2 so you are 'one of us' and no escaping! :rotfl:

Sophiesmum & CW, have fun meeting up and I hope the 'oldies' enjoy the festivities.

It's getting more and more like Christmas now, and my new log store is all built up and in place, complete with what's left of the logs stacked. :j Neighbour handed in a bottle of wine by way of a thank you for HS walking theire dog when they were away, so I'm now looking for a good film as an excuse to open the bottle and have a relaxing night in front of the [strike]fire[/strike] TV. Is anyone a member of L0vef!lm? Sis sent me a free 3 month trial voucher or there's the cashback route. It's just that when I counted up how much we spend on DVDs when they are on offer plus box sets for gifts, I may be cheaper with a membership. :rotfl: Any advice, reports or recommendations welcome - I live nowhere near a rental place, so no point suggesting that. :o I'll also take a look at Te$c0 and Bl0ckbu$ter to compare.

  • I haven't posted on the new thread yet and I feel like I'm missing out on all the fun! Since I'm twisting the challenge a bit and doing it for the academic year rather than the calendar year, I'm going to post my budget on 1st Jan or thereabouts to show how much I have left in each spending category. I've overspent a bit so far but fingers crossed it can be recovered in 2009...

I live in Kent (the London end though!) in the holidays, carolbee :) And nyk, I did the lovefilm free trial for the cashback - I thought they were very efficient and it was great to have such a wide selection of titles to choose from, meant I could order specific films I had been meaning to see for ages but never quite got round to getting hold of. And it was very straightforward to cancel at the end.

Thanks, guys. I think I may take up the 3 months free trial offer after Christmas using the voucher from my sis, then see how it goes. Of course, I'll update my budget accordingly if I decide to take this course of action.

Hope you are taking time out from job-searching SF, how are things going with that? I'm nominating you as our chief musician for the frugal virtual pantomime, but can't decide on what to host - should it be Snow White and the Seven Frunchkins, Mother (whoopsied) Goose or Al [strike]lad[/strike] frugal in. :rotfl:
