Boomdocker - interesting budget, Elite? Now that is something I really can relate to, if only my interest had stuck at a £10 per month club membership - oh the trials and tribulations of the racing world, I LOVE IT!!! :j :rotfl:

Thanks for the add Nyk. I love racing too hence the high media package cost as it includes eveything. You'll see there's hardly any socialising costs as I don't go out much (that makes me sound sad, but I'm not honest, lol!) My hobby is my sport and I get both the racing channels so I can catch every race every day or at least tape and catch up later. Love the chases me. Joined Elite years ago and this year it was about £33 a quarter. Should reduce a little this year but if not I 'll just re-jig once I know for sure. That said I may have to re-jig the other bills as they will go up mid-year, this will come from the miscillaneous line.

I am using your idea of starting each heading with the total year spend and then reducing accordingly so I can see what's left, think it may be a bit clearer that way.

I have a recipe for coleslaw. I have made three batches now and We love it. I use the cheapie bags of shredded veg from Mr.T. It is in a syrupy/vinegar solution and stays remarkably crisp. I even did some stir fry veg that was 4p a bag and they turned out well too. I just drain and serve but it can be mixed with mayo. I got the recipe from a canning group and was a little bit sceptical but not now. If anyone wants to try it I will post it.
I will have a look at those chutney recipes. I have made mango, gooseberry and marrow chutnies this year. All with either our own or cheapie Mr.T veg and fruit.

Goodmorning grandma. I pickle and preserve a lot of things, I find it more natural without the preservatives and cheaper, of course. Can we have your recipe please? Thank you!:D
I usually preserve eggs, celery stalks, small spicy peppers, cucumbers, small green tomatoes etc with white vinegar and a bit of sugar, and some mustard seeds if I have some, they last ages in the fridge. And of course some jams and preserves with fruit, done the usual way.

Have a nice and FRUGAL day you all! And please please remember that only good health is priceless. Everything else comes if we are patient and hard working enough.

The lady who posted this recipe is called Dede and I believe she invented it herself. I have a photo of hers I just have to work out how to post it. I use dark vinegar because thats what I have in so mine is a darker colour.
    Grandma

    Coleslaw to can or freeze
    1 medium head cabbage
    1 large carrot
    1 green pepper
    1 small onion
    1 teaspoon salt
    SYRUP
    1 cup vinegar
    1/4 cup water
    2 cups sugar
    1 teaspoon celery seeds
    1 teaspoon mustard seeds
Shred together vegetables. Add the salt. Let stand 1 hour. Drain
water from vegetables. Boil syrup ingredients together for 1
minute, cool. Add syrup to vegetables. Pack into quart jars and
process in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes, or put into freezer
containers and freeze. Leftovers may be frozen. This slaw may be
drained before use and mayonnaise added, or used as is.

Edit: If you want to lower the salt content rinse and drain the veg before adding the syrup.

Oh good, you are all posting recipes now. I've just cleaned out the freezer and it's ready and waiting for some good, cheap, healthy food to go in!

Time for a cuppa and then I'm off to chop leeks. :)

Firstly click on the 'post reply' button rather than the quick reply.

Just above the text window you'll get there are a number of icons. You want to click on the 6th from the right on the bottom row. It looks like two mountains and a sun against a yellow background. Then just follow the instructions. :)

Yes. You can upload things very easily to imageshack and then post the url. (Or flickr or photobucket or whatever but you don't need an account with image shack). If you need more help then PM me and I'll sort it. :)
