Been thinking, since I paid for my garden stuff from a different account, it is best not to add it to my 4k challenge, otherwise I am just going to confuse myself.

Yeah I remember a friend of mine telling me she used to have to sleep with upwards of three blankets at night

Three blankets  I must be a weakling. I have a 15 Tog quilt, a comforter, flanelette (sp?) sheets, 3 cats and an electic blanket :rotfl: I have no heating in my bedroom though.

Sorry to hear about the funeral.

That sounds exactely like my eldest son, he's 6 now and gets lot of help as he goes to a special communication center four afternoons a week and is coming on really well now. He is still highly obssessive though, and it can be very hard work on one of the not so good days.

Mshawx -great deal on the oil .............shame about the landrover, tell us more about the chickens

Sophiesmum - Sorry about your chooks

Chickens - loads of them. I've always loved them, they are so entertaining and have great characters.

I have 5 old girls called the 'garden girls' or it should be the 'garden muggers' as they demand to come into the utility room on a wet day. When I retired I decided to expand and do 'free range eggs' on a more business level so hence the 'loads of chooks' So what was a hobby has turned into a small business. Physically hard work, 4/5hrs a day approx, horrible in the wet weather, upsetting when you lose one, can't leave them and go on holiday - but I love it.

If you want loads of eggs get hybrid layers, can recommend the plain brown ones, they are so friendly. Mine are a hybrid called 'Babcocks'. I have some white ones that lay white eggs - they are more flighty and roam further, can fly, want to spend the night in the trees. I've also just got some blue egg layes - look a little like female pheasants but smaller. Not as friendly as the brown ones, but less flighty than the white ones. However, if you are not worried about how many eggs you get there are truely fantastic looking breeds out there.

Landrover - picked it up last night, and the penelty for losing the keys - nearly £250.00, well, that's the profit gone on the eggs for a while!!!!

Must go and make some soup for when the OH comes in and look on my freezer 'leftover' shelf to see what I can russle up for tea - we have some strange combinations at times as I generally forget to label the bags.
January food 175.00 spent 181.60 oops nothing left. £4000 challenge/3384.49 left

    Morning everyone,
I've been lurking through blogs this morning..its amazing how one blog links to another and another and then something else. I can end up with about 10 tabs by the time I've finished..
I found a link to a site about small houses, I've not read through it yet but its really reminded me that my house is big 'enough'. Not that I've had yearnings for a mansion or anything but just I can find it so easy to get caught up with the whole 'the bigger the better' thing. Anyway, I'm off to make lasagne for tonights tea with my left over tomatoes, bolognaise and chilli...

Hi everyone :hello: Just dashing on to say to Sophiesmum - with your 'reduce, reuse, recycle' aims this year, why not see if someone can reuse the Christmas cards you're collecting? Maybe a local school, Guide group etc etc who could make the present tags and sell them as part of a fundraiser? I know it wouldn't make masses of money but we did it when raising funds (60k) for an expedition to Venezuela and every little helps! Just a thought (one that had me scrabbling to put the light back on so I could write it on my to do list by the side of the bed :rotfl:)

In the spirit of RRR, which I also try to do as much as possible, I stumbled across a perfect felt making project this morning :j I finished the last mint tea bag and was loathe to just recycle the box. I use old envelopes cut up to write lists on so I've decided to cover the box in felt and put them in it by the side of my bed for the late night lists I write (helps me sleep if my brain isn't trying to hold onto info). Not only that but the paper will smell of mint :T If it works I might make some as pressies, or cover with material, nice paper if I can't make the felt :D It's my day off tomorrow so I may start wandering round the charity shops asking for unsellable wool jumpers ;)
Anyhoo, I'm in the middle of lesson planning so best get back to it...that's if the cats leave me alone, I currently have one curled up on the desk, one on my shoulder and another by my feet
Will catch up later, have a good day all x

  • morning everyone,
very wet and miserable around here today. Got to go to the bank later and will actually pay something in for a change!!! Had some money for xmas and not seen anything yet in the sales so decided to bank it until i find something i desparately need to buy.
Yesterday had half an hour clearing out the greenhouse, now needs sweeping and a good wash down inside and out but got so cold i came back indoors. Hopefully get that finished at the weekend. Then everything will be prepared for the veggie seedlings when its time to sow them. Hubby is planning on fencing the plot we dug over before xmas as we have loads of rabbits coming in from surrounding fields- and sorry but im not sharing my veggies with them!! Got the wire and fence posts given (previously used but fine for the job) so no cost there. Just hope it warms up before saturday so it will make the job more pleasant.

Good luck all you dieters-- been one myself for years- got half a stone to go still but on mainteneance at weight watchers (unfortuanelty xmas excess to come off AGAIN!!) . I make leek and potatoe soup and french onion alot, very low cal and filling with a plain bread roll.

have a good day all, try to pop back later

  • I've decided to put away the money I save on reduced/sales items - it won't last til the end of the year but I can try.

I've put it in an account that I can't access too easily and it will be nice to see it build up just a little - I've saved about £15 in the reduced sections so far.

Got loads of puff pastry yesterday which will come in handy over the year.

    Morning peeps,
Another cold and miserable day here today!!!!
Well there was nothing in MrT's last night! Where have all there value ranges gone? Not only that but the few bits they did have in have doubled in price:mad:. I always do my list online to price it all up so i know how much i'll be spending and they didn't have half the stuff i wanted. Still i stuck to my budget and managed to get a fair amount for my money.
Just realised, i have cc+ and i load it up with £100 each month for my shopping and it came out of my bank on the 30th dec instead of 1st jan, i will be adding it to my gc total for jan but should i add it to this challenge?
Had a really bad night with DS last night, he was up crying loads. Got a text from my friend to let me know that her little girl has got chicken pox and we went out for lunch when she would of been contagious so hoping he's not getting them too.

My plan for today is to do as little as possible as i've have no kip and i'm at work later. not looking forward to that, i'll have to be taking some matchsticks with me to keep my eyes open:rolleyes:.
OH has just rang to say he's treating us to a free lunch from his works so i'm gonna sit n veg with my little un for a bit.

    Have a good day everyone
