  • Thanks nykmedia and bails. Really looking forward to this challenge. Sorry to hear your ex isn't paying maintenance kittikins. I may be wrong but I'm quite sure that even if he did go bankrupt, he will get an "allowance" on top of what they let him keep to live on to pay maintenance. Meantime, I can't understand why he isn't paying you now if he isn't bankrupt at the moment. Sorry if I sound interferring.

Evening all, hope you have had good days, will catch up on the thread in a bit.

Busy day here. Second day in new job and enjoyed it although the days go slow compared to when you are lounging around at home :) I work in a family centre and a lot of young Mums came in with their babies to mingle and get advice, they did crafts, baking and sang songs, it was so cute.

This evening I went to a free preview screening of Sex Drive in the cinema, it was absolutely hilarious and very along the lines of American Pie. The whole cinema screen was in stictches :)

Had an email from Pigsback (eventually) as I queried why I had not received my reward (just Pigsback branded stuff as haven't got enough points for anything else...) and they say as I have multiple accounts they have been cancelled?! Myself and my sister have an account but my sister only has around 100 points on hers. It is all very bizarre. Nothing tracks for me when I buy via the site anyway and they never answer emails so probably glad to be out of it. Still a bit of a cheek though I thought!!

Went to bank at lunch for work and took £10 out when I was there and £50 seems to have disappeared, will log onto online banking in a bit and track it down ;) Just catching up with important things in the meantime... like this forum and Celebrity Big brother on Channel 4+1 :rotfl:

Enjoy the rest of your evening everyone!!

Mumzy, the cash we make from these companies is a form of advertising for them and they spend a fortune on it, trying to reel in as many new customers as possible. Having thought it over (and worked in media, advertising, marketing, promotions etc) then I hate to say this, but I'd keep the money. If you signed up in good faith, as per their terms and conditions, and only then found out about the deposit, that isn't your fault. Everyone has a right to cancel and if they aren't on the ball enough to spot any flaws in their own campaign, then that isn't your fault either. You could say that you were paid the money to make you aware of their brand, in which case, it certainly worked because look how many people have found out about it just from your talking about it online - Job done, they should be grateful. (Off to see if I can get V!rg!n Med!a plus £65 cashback, might be worth my while switching  )

last year I took out home insurance with AIG via quidco. It was £87.37 for the year and £90 cashback.Fantastic I thought a free years home insurance. It tracked 5 times and paid out 5 times. That was £450 that hit my bank account in June.I kept expecting them to notice and ask for it back.I did mention it on the Quidco thread which I know they had a representative reading but I heard nothing.I spent the money on christmas after keeping it for 6 months in my account.I'm like you Nyk.I say enjoy it Mumzy.

  • Nothing much to report except a NSD (feeling smug). Hugs to all Frugalists experiencing snags and setbacks such as non-payment of maintenance, non-allowance of chickens, etc; I hope it comes right for you. In the meantime I've decided I really HAVE to get some CH in here. This evening I had as much heat in the house as I could coax from the system. At the same time, I was wearing the following -
Top half: long sleeved T-shirt under long-sleeved top under woolly cardie. Bottom half: thick tights under trackie bottoms, socks on top of tights, feet in furry slippers. Scarf round neck...and I was STILL cold. The firewood is coming indoors coated in ice, which kind of defeats the object. Oh well, just off to melt down some seal blubber...:D

Yeah I remember a friend of mine telling me she used to have to sleep with upwards of three blankets at night because they didn't get central heating until recently. Couldn't believe it! And it's not as if they're short of money.

Had a NSD today. I just wish it was under happier circumstances, it was my gran's funeral :(

busy busy afternoon, brother and his girlfriend came round after work with a very mega woopsied sainsburys taste he difference gammon joint she had got for 51p its now tucked up in the freezer

she came ovr for a pedicure nearby so dragged me with her where protesting i had a manisure and french polish but it was only £5 and my nails look great ive been trying to grow them since i stoped biteing them in the summer so to me its £5 worth spent and may be my treat every now and again (i dont smoke drink or go out, have any hobbies bar the ood book)

we then went to asda later this evening and i somehow managed to spend £63.44 but i now have squirrled away

    another 3 activ fizz
6 bottles of olive oil (asda 50% extra free and 2 bottles for £4 quid)
9x4 baked beans beans on toast anyone
    4x4 spaghetti
4 more lots of deodarant (wont smell for a whole year now)
2 lots of some mega good arm and hammer toothpaste (summit to do with enamel)
    6 packs soda crystals
2 boxs smart price tea bags
2 thomas duvet sets (boys only have a set each so saves tumble drying them) these sadly were £12 each
and a duvet set for me costing under 4 quid (sale)
8 bottles of pepsi max (worked out at 75p a bottle)

my cupboard is now very rammed with loo rolls cleaning stuff beans and spaghetti plus normal food stuffs and the oil, and my bathroom with cleaning me stuff, will save a bit over the comeing months.

i have a whole chicken, just over 2kg of pork and a 1.25kg n joint in the freezer which im hopeing will yeald around 15 meals worth of meat (more if i can help it) along with mince for 3 meals, sausages for 2 meals bacon for 3 meals and frozen chicken bits for another 4 meals so at least 24 meals in the freezer 2bags of rice and 2 of pasta in cupboard and 2 bags of spuds (and there only 74p a bag in asda at the mo) plus other bits and bobs 9 bags of bread flour and more im hopeing to be good for a few months where food is concerned

off to bed now to frugal think, it seems to take up lots of my time but the ultimate goal for me is to clear the debts and this is the way to do it, by the time ive cleared them this will be a normal way of life, im still learning here from nyk and sophiesmum to name but 2 cause there are at least 250 others and id be here all night

am shooing to bed now will catch up tomorrow, ds is back at school so have to be up for 7

Books are a bit of a drain on my finances too unfortunately They're so expensive now! So I've made a resolution for this year, which is buying no more books until I've read all the ones I own, and that's months worth. I just like having them on my shelf you see, I do plan to read them, I just never get round to it :(

I also did this with uni books. Spent £200 last academic year, and it wasn't really worth it. This year I've been making much more use of the library, so I've spent £0 :D

Not necessarily frozen pipes. If your water supply has been cut off for some reason, you'll still get from the hot tap -- assuming you have a heating system with a hot water cylinder.
