Right - I have just transferred two thirds of my wages from my Alliance & Leicester account into my new Citibank account. The rest will cover this months DDs plus some leftover that I will withdraw from a cash machine.
Still feel nervous about sending of the token payments though. Can I send the token payments by cheque or do you have to use postal orders?
Thanks to Rachel and Donna and all the others who offered such welcoming support last night. Your experiences are so valuable and the support is so amazing - thank you.:A
Hi Jenevieve,
There is no problem with sending cheques if you prefer, but personally I prefer postal orders simply because I don't want any of my creditors to have my new bank details (paronoid as this sounds   ). I have been doing tokens for Feb and am also for March, due to start DMP in April (I wanted to build up a bit of a buffer first and also it's been nice to have a bit of a breather from seeing my salary vanish on debt repayments as soon as it hits my account). First tokens I sent I felt really bad, but believe me that feeling goes away once you see that (in my case for the first time in ages) you actually have money again for stuff like food and clothing for the kids!!DMP mutual support thread member: 253

Hiya Quillion!
Your hubby will get to that lightbulb moment...my hubby was the same, he panics more than i do, and is useless with finances. But i just took control and he just followed my lead...the fact that he saw a huge difference withing weeks of going on dmp helped him understand that the dmp was right for us.
To hear him talk now...he raves about it especially as we have found out so many of our friends and people we know are in the same postion..on dmps!!!
For him i think the embarassment of the debt was hard....but he had no choice i have been open with everyone about our debts....give advise to my friends and family, helped them reclaim bank charges as we did and proudly display my moneysaving expert car sticker!!!!
Dont worry he will soon see you are great for facing up to the debts and dealing with them head on

Quillion - Sorry, not sure what you mean by "We have gone onto short time". Also, "When you resume normal working"?
We work in manufacturing
At christmas we were told not to come back to work till week after we should have and they paid us 20.48 per day for 5 days. Went back to work had a meeting where they said from the following monday we would be working a three day week and part timers would be pro rata making my hours 14 hours. This is to continue for a minimum of 8 weeks but can and will be extended if no orders come in. i was just managing to pay everything before now i can't.
Hence the DMP.
I wish i could make DH see that this would be the better option in the long term but he still has his head in the sand. Not had his light bulb moment yet!!
PS
DH works at the same place and has lost 16 hours per week
Ah ok, makes more sense now! I can't really suggest much other than to explain to PayPlan or CCCS your position, or for that matter give the National Debt Helpline a shout for advice. I think we've all had our heads in the sand at some point before coming on here, hence the position some of us are in! The sooner DH understands, the better I'm afraid...DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
Right chocolate talk is banned!!!!:rotfl: lol Wine i will allow!!!:D
Just another quick example of how a dmp has help me...before the dmp i couldnt afford to put electric in the metre never mind join a weight loss club...but now here i am 3 stones lighter almost at target, just wish the debt fell off as easily as my weight has!!!
The little changes make a huge difference...and it goes to show you can start to tackle anything once you face the debts!!Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
dEBTFREE78---I take it from the 78 that you maybe about the same age as me (77 babe!!)...i at first felt silly, mad, scared that i had got into such as mess....the turning point for myself and hubby was one saturday morning the post fell on the doormat........AND I FELL TO PIECES!!!
It was then i realised this couldnt go on for the kids sake aswell as ours..i search the internet for information as i hadnt found this wonderful site then (i wished i had) and by that afternoon had spoken to a dmp company and signed up. The huge sense of relife was amazing....still a little scared i did everything they told me to..sent of letters ect and have never looked back, apart from making the mistake of going to a fee paying firm for the first 2 years and 11 months, i am still grateful to the firm for getting me on the debt free journey but have recently swapped over to payplan meaning my dfd is even closer.
Im 3 years and 1 month into my journey and have my life back....if you had seen me 4 years ago when the kids gave me there xmas , b.day lists i used to fall to bits behind closed doors...yet this year for an example my boys asked for ps3, and my daughter for a ds........i smiled and went out and paid CASH for everything on their lists without worrying as this money had already been put away all accounted for under the dmp!!! Seeing their faces when they got everything they asked for and my hubbys smile knowing `santa` had paid cash makes you realise that a dmp has been a lifeline for us.....so what if they creditors are getting less a month than they did...im paying it back every last penny just over a longer time and in the mean time my family are enjoying day to day life, hoildays, birthdays ,xmas........DMP`S ROCK (as my kids would say!!!)
Hi DLB,
You guessed right! I'll be 31 this year... I still feel can't believe I'm this age and that I'm old enough to be mum to many of the teenage pupils I teach!:eek:
It's a relief to know that DMP is a genuine way out from what you and other posters have said... I think part of me wants it done now though so I know where I stand and if all the creditors have agreed to it, but from what you're saying it all sounds worth it! I really wished I'd done it years ago instead of just refinancing and getting deeper into debt!
It must be great for you and your hubby to know that what you're getting for your children is paid with your money and that you can see a way out. I don't have any fear or respect for these banks now, especially when their bosses are earning tens of thousands of week by basically exploiting normal don't-even-earn-that-in-a-year people like us:mad:
Thanks again - it's good to hear from your experience that there is a way out of this! :rotfl:0 -
LOL debtfree78........i was 32 last week...but look at it like this..im young enough to have learnt my lesson and once this journey is over i will still be young enough to enjoy life only with a lesson learnt and as a cash only lady!!!
And yes you could well be teaching my kids!!! 6,11,12 and 13...oh i had a fun childhood!!! And have 4 kids to prove it!!! But again ill still be a `youngish` parent when the kids are grown and have no debts, plus because im so open about the debts i know the kids will come to me if the get in a mess with money...which i hope they dont but at least they will know where to come if they do!!!
My best friend is a teaching assistant in my youngest sons class...and she was telling me how the teacher asked them last week to put their hand up if they thought they were rich, poor ect..learning about different social classes.....my son put his hand up for being poor and the teacher asked him why?
My friend was laughing so much whilst telling me this and i said...`please tell me he didnt say becuase my mum and dad are on a dmp!!` she laughed and said thats what she thought he was going to say but he came out with............
Because mum wont buy me designer lables!!!!

Hi Ianmak, I have a long stretch ...can I have a number too!!...reduced rate of course, as its after 10pm!!!;)
Evening All,
I was unable to stop my payment going to my old account...pay day is tomorrow..so I'll be on the war path to withdraw as much as I can!!
Payplan have sent me my documents...:j
Q: They have actually included my OD at my old bank. This is correct as of now. But now as my pay goes in tomorrow, this will be removed!
The aim will then be to remove as much cash as I can and leave the account flat.
Will Payplan accept the amendment on the creditor’s sheet to zero or will they have to send new docs out.
HSBC would not open a new account for me unless I signed to close my others. So I applied online to the co-op.
As I have not got the account details yet...I cannot send my Payplan docs back.
So I'm not making much progress, but receiving countless calls and letters. Abbey want me to speak with them and the DMP advisors? Aegis on behalf of MBNA are on my case too.
Is there a letter that I can send advising them and the others of my payplan number and that they should contact them directly....or am I not permitted to send this until I have sent my signed docs back to PP first?
Thanks in advance guys..
Hope

HOPE,re bank a/c, have opened mine with the co-op,they're pretty quick and had my welcome pack within about 3 working days. Good luck this time, am sure all will be fine xDMP Mutual Support Thread member no.2490 -
Thanks fullhouse - I think I will get postal orders - sounds a bit more straightforward. Have never bought them before so when you buy them do you have to have the details of who you are using them for or can you buy a job lot (so to speak) and fill in other details?
Hi debtfreewannabe1978 - I am only just starting out myself - having filled in the debt remedy on CCCS website and going for the dmp option - so share a lot of your anxieties.
Please believe me when I say that people on here are so lovely and supportive. Every question and query is answered and there is no judgement or blame, just a massive outpouring of help and support.
And I am with you on the chocolate - I got some tasty choc orange mini eggs - my poor flatmate can't eat them as she has given up choc for Lent haha....:rotfl:Proud to be dealing with my debts

I bought a job lot from the Post office and just filled in all the details myself. I didn't want to put the poor lady at the counter through having to fill out £1 POs for my million creditors!! (well 10 but feels like a million)
