    :hello: Good afternoon!

Churchmouse - Glad you are ok! Hope all goes well with the Lunch Club tomorrow. They are so lucky to have you and I hope they appreciate all that you do!

Just popped back to say that Asda are doing the 200g jars of Carte Noire instant coffee (my favourite) for £4.00 - or 2 jars for £5! A terrific saving, as a 100g jar is now £2.78 (or even more in Sainsbury's). Didn't really know what to get Christmas-food-wise, as I think we will be going to DD1's on Boxing Day but she has been so busy with Uni stuff for herself and her DH that we haven't made any firm arrangements yet. DD2, DSIL2 and the little DGKs are having Christmas dinner at DSIL's parents', but will visit us either on the way there or on the way back, so they won't want feeding as they will either be about to get fed or have just been fed :D Though of course the odd Quality Street never goes amiss! Actually I've been feeling a bit low and un-festive lately, and have only just realised why - I think it's because I'd really love to host a big Christmas dinner for all our children and grandchildren and I'm not up to it atm :o The last time I did it was before DD2 and her then fiance were even married, so about 4 years ago. Oh well, in a year or two the little grandchildren will be a bit older and that may make it more feasible - though there isn't room round our new table for the whole lot of us anyway, come to think of it :p We've ordered a turkey crown from the butcher's and I think it's going to be too big and we'll be eating it til Easter :D Still, it does make lovely curries, stews, etc.

I remember reading an article which pointed out that there is one stage at which you are too young to have to cook Christmas dinner, and one at which you are old enough to be able to say, "I'll sit here and have another glass of sherry (or whatever) while you're washing up.", so you only have to worry about the years in between :D

Pooky - that casserole sounds

wannabe sybil - I hope you manage to get the mustard out of your jumper! I was going to suggest Stardrops too ;)

jorgan - Glad you enjoyed watching him squirm :D Serve him right!

Still haven't read yesterday's thread, as we ended up going out instead, so will do that now!

Morning. I also have the dreaded man-flu. Each day I think it is going, but wake up and it is still there. Not bad enought to miss work for, but I am day off today anyway.
OH did not get the job she interviewed for, so she is very depressed. It was not that good a job anyway, but I guess it's the thought of still being jobless and having no money. She does supply work, but there is no work during school holidays.
I think we are off to finish off the last of the presents, I will have to get something as I do not want to go again and again just looking.
Might do meat loaf for tea.
    Cheers sneeze.gif

not sure what your wife does but assuming by the supply work she is a teacher or a teaching assistant if so has she thought about nanny work at all and can also do that just in school holidays as many parents just employ school hols nannies, may be worth contacting local nanny agencies to enquire or looking on sites such as nannyjob and gumtree.

    Afternoon all.

Just sitting here chilling before I have to go out again. Forgot to get the points added at Tesco and Boots that my flatmate earned yesterday. I could go tomorrow but I might stroll along to Westfield and go meet Jamie Oliver if i can find at least one of the 2 books of his I have.

Back from a lovely carol concert at the local church and filled with so much cake, biscuits and mince pies its unreal. I even got 4 medium glasses of cream sherry as a lot of the ppl there were old folk and abstainers...My heart would have been warmed without any I have to say. I love going to carol services.

Then went to a charity shop on the way home and got a little xmas hat and xmas babygro for a friends baby and had my annual festive Starbucks treat Gingerbread Latte.

Looking forward to a HUGE pot of soup for dinner.I made as my flatmate has a cold and I am a bit under the weather.

    Happy Birthday/Congrats/ Hugs where appropriate..

    xxx

_party_ Happy Birthday Nelski and MSD and happy anniversary for the Tru's. My OH and I aren't married but we got together on new years day so see that as our anniversary, a nice easy one to remember too.

OS - today I've made a huge pan of mince with lentils, breadcrumbs and loads of veg, think there is hardly any mince in it tbh. We're having that on huge frozen yorkshires tonight, should be yummy. Also about to get off my behind and make the Twink's that I've been gonna make for days. Got a friend over for dinner tonight and then a different friend staying tomorrow night so good to have plenty of biccies in. WM and DW are on too. That's about it, been a bit lazy today. Got to do a HUGE tidy through as my Dad might be coming over to stay on Sat night after his Christmas party. Also just a general good clean through for Christmas would be good. I'm started to get excited for my sister coming to visit over chrismas and new year, she arrives sat night but staying with our parents then coming to mine on Sunday :j I've really missed her since she moved down south.

Was going to pop out shopping today but couldn't be bothered/get myself motivated enough. Going tomorrow instead, just got to get some extra stuff for the Twink's I'm making to give to people on Sat (my parents, OH's parents and some good friends) and a little pressie for a friend. I'm almost done with christmas shopping but my sister and I like to make a stocking for our parents so I'm waiting for her to arrive to get the last few bits for that as we like to do some of the shopping together. We've got a few little things already but it's just fun to shop about for stuff for our parents (cheap stuff as we're both skint!).

Right, off to make the Twinks. *huggles* for anyone who needs or wants them, hope everyone who is poorly is feeling better soon

Happy Birthday to MSD :bdaycake: and Nelski :bdaycake:
Got to work just after 7 & the bursar sent me straight home again to get hubby, she was desperate for some help & he was home for the day.
He's working with BIL1 tomorrow & Friday, but I'll see if they need him on Thursday. It's all a few extra pennies.
I got home today to find the wool I'd ordered on Sunday had arrived, so I must go & sort it all out.
Mrs Mix, sorry to hear you aren't feeling well.
    Have a good evening everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Sorry to hear of so many poorlies amongst us. Big (((hug)))
Making a pot of soup for tea and we'll have beans on toast after that. Need to have a rummage through the freezer and try to make some room in there. I have DH's 50th on Mon and had planned to do some cooking before for that and Christmas. Ah well. It hasn't all gone according to plan but never mind.
We have DH's work do tomorrow night. Meal and dance. I got an outfit for under £40 - new black top from New Look(bit low - ooh err missus) - about £20, got a really nice black skirt in charity shop reduced to £1.50 (New Look and works well with top!), black satiny look kitten heels from Tesco for £15. So that's me sorted. I'm not into glad rags anymore so don't want to spend a lot on kind of party dresses. I'd rather put the money towards something like a nice jacket.
Finish work on Friday so am crawling towards that.
Hope everyone has a good evening.

Hi all - just thought I'd pop back in while I'm waiting for DH to get back from work. The curry's in the Remoska almost done; DGS has just been collected by his Dad so I'm enjoying a coffee.

    Glad you're back, Churchmouse!

Tomorrow I shall be ironing and then wrapping up presents for the immediate family. Once they are under the tree I shall feel really Christmassy - all the others have been posted, as have all my cards so I'm starting to feel less pressured now. It's such a work up and I consider myself quite organised!

I called in to my local charity shop this morning and picked up a lovely sugar-pink cashmere jumper for £1 (!) and some tailored grey trousers for 50p - they go really well together. All the clothes are £1 each or 3 for £1 for children's, plus they have a really good sale rail where everything is 50p. It's great for when you feel like a spend-up but only have a couple of quid!

Well, I'd better go and give the curry a stir. Hope you all have a great evening and that all the poorlies are getting better.

Thriftlady - how is your DS?
