Old Style Tuesday 16th December

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday16December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all been up since 3.30 as am feeling ropey.......off to finish Christmas shopping today then back to housework

Morning Pink
I hope you feel better soon.
I managed to stagger through work yesterday. Came home at 4:30 & I was in bed by 5:30 & slept till 5:00 this morning & feel a bit better today.
Off to work again in an hour, we finish on 19th, but not sure if I can get everything done by then, so I may work a couple of extra days.
I hope everyone has a good day.
Hugs Hester

Morning. I also have the dreaded man-flu. Each day I think it is going, but wake up and it is still there. Not bad enought to miss work for, but I am day off today anyway.
OH did not get the job she interviewed for, so she is very depressed. It was not that good a job anyway, but I guess it's the thought of still being jobless and having no money. She does supply work, but there is no work during school holidays.
I think we are off to finish off the last of the presents, I will have to get something as I do not want to go again and again just looking.
Might do meat loaf for tea.
CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Good Morning All
Take it easy Hester & N9eav - get rid of the cold before Xmas - sorry about the job N9eav.
Need to get lots done today, office work this morning then need to go to Makro to get the few essential Xmas bits that Tesco didnt deliver yesterday.
Must do some more wrapping then attack the ironing pile.
Dont have to cook though as off out for my Xmas meal with mates I used to work with many years ago, we havnt caught up in ages so I cant wait. OH will cook dinner for him and the kids.
Everynow & then I look at the Christmas board and found some great ideas for presents. DD bought her friends a couple of cheap things but then will put them in cellophane bags and they look expensive and fantastic. She will take them into school today.
Anyway off now for a quick surf.
Have a great day & (((hugs))) whereever needed.0 -
Morning all,
It's boiling here today. DGS didn't arrive this morning from not being well. He's ok now. I went shopping as planned this morning and did some baking this arv. I made a batch of mini Christmas puddings out of bought christmas cake. You put melted white choc on top etc & some apricot balls that aren't behaving themselves - collapsing. Sigh. Hopefully tomorrow's lot will be fine.
I then will wrap them in cellophane & tizzy them up with ribbon. DGS & I are going to a Old Folks Home on Thursday to hand them out. By the time he hands them over I expect they will be a crumbly mess. Why is when you need things to work out in the kitchen it never does. :wall:
N9eav That's a shame about DW's job. I can understand her getting down about it. Hope you feel better tomorrow.
HH It's great when you get a good night's sleep.
Churchmouse You haven't run off with the milkman have you? Please come back. Free milk isn't everything you know.
Hope you all have a great day & <hugs> to those not well. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Today I have to meal plan and order the bits I want deliverd from sainsbugs, dd and I will go out and get some bits from Lidl, and our local warehouse shop on monday, but will get wine ect delivered.
It was good news on OH payrise I wont go on about it, as so many people are struggling, but suffice to say we are happy :T .
OH has hm carrot and corriander soup today with 2 cheese scones, 2 choccie bars and crisps  , He has hollow legs
Minty lamb chops for tea with mash, sprouts and cabbage, and I need to make a chilli for tomorrow night.
Will have a quick tidy through and then get on. I finished all my wrapping yesterday, I hate that job, so glad its done.
Happy Birthday to MS Diva  :j :T
And Happy Birthday to Nelski  :j :T
Hugs to Taplady, smoky Catz friend and anyone else in need have good days all xx0 -
Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall?
It's the time that every Santa has a ball
Does he ride a red nosed reindeer?
Does a 'ton up' on his sleigh
Do the fairies keep him sober for a day?
So here it is Merry Christmas
Everybody's having fun
Look to the future now
It's only just begun
In my calendar today - a Christmas pud :santa2:
I'm off to town with my mum today, I'm not in the mood. Hopefully I'll feel a bit more like it when I've had a shower and woken up properly
Nothing OS going on here, I can't be bothered
Edited in a slight panic:-
Mr tru has just given me a card - apparently it's our anniversary today  I completely forgot (again)

Morning all
Christmas lunch at work today. Don't work on Tuesdays but will make the effort as it's a free lunch and we will do our Secret Santa. I ended up choosing the name of the most unliked person in the place as he's a troubleshooter brought in for a couple of months to make miracles happen. I looked for a few things for a fiver to get him but most of the things I wanted to get would probably have got me sacked, (the best one was a mug with 'do I look like a ******* people person?' on it) so I have behaved myself and got something suitable
Did a marathon wrapping session yesterday, and, then, as you do, after putting it all away, found one that I forgot. Might try and do that today after I come back from my lunch. DH said he would have beans on toast for tea tonight as I wouldn't want any so beans on toast it is!!! Simple pimple. Mr T will deliver between 2-4. Decided not to do a delivery for next week as both myself and DH are off so we will brave the shops very early on Tuesday I think.
Have a good day all and hope all those feeling poorly feel better soon. Had flu for last Christmas and got a rotten cold the other week so hopefully will enjoy this Christmas!!!0 -
Good morning everyone.
Tru - I hope you enjoy the day with your Mum! I can't be bothered OSing at the moment but, having said that, I have made a bread-and-butter pud which is in the Remoska as I type, and I've prepped for tonight's curry. DGS will be here for dinner but he doesn't like curry so he'll have what he always chooses round here - chips, salad and ham.
N9eav - sorry about OH's job but you weren't too happy about the prospect, were you, so perhaps it's a blessing in disguise. Let's hope the right job comes along soon. I hope you feel better soon.
(((Hugs))) to everyone who is poorly; I can't believe how many people are unwell at the moment - it makes the winter even more miserable.
Hester - you are definitely doing way too much. I hope you manage to relax over Christmas.
Redruby - well done to DH on his pay rise. I bet you're glad the smear test was yesterday, aren't you? It was a good reminder for those who haven't had their routine one, though. I had mine in March so that's it until 2011, thankfully!
Pink - hope you feel better soon.
Good to hear from you, Aussie, and I too am wondering where Churchmouse is?
Well, today I have to post the rest of my Christmas parcels. I have loads of stamps that just say '1st' on them so I'm wondering if I can use those on parcels, but I'll have to take them with me and ask at the post office. I hope I can, otherwise it's going to cost a fortune to send two large parcels and three small ones. This is what you get when you move away from your home town - you have to post presents, so you're limited by size and weight when you choose pressies, then it costs an arm and a leg to post them. Usually, one of the family will make a trip here or we'll go there and swap pressies but, this year, none of us has the time.
Quick reminder about posting dates for Christmas: last day for 2nd class is Thursday (18th) and for 1st is Saturday (20th).
Well, I must get a wiggle on so see you all later.
