URGENT £400 GYM LOOPHOLE. CLOSES OCT 31

Interesting offer. Take out a new policy Pru Health, and get a 6 months free membership (at Cannons or Holmes Place), and discounted there after. The Gyms are of the more upmarket variety and usually charge silly money for membership!
I did a sample quote for myself (male under 35 non-smoker, Core policy, with max excess and min hospitals), and the premiums are under £23 /month!
After 6 months, membership is only £25/month, IMHO £23+25 is a lot less than Cannons would charge me as an individual for membership, and I get basic health insurance thrown in for nothing!

Can't find detailed T&C for Pruhealth online, but if it's like other health insurance policies, provided you haven't made a claim, in theory it may be possible to cancel the policy after only 6 months!
YMMV - HTH - Rufus.

What’s the deal?
Sign up to PruHealth (private medical insurance) and it’ll give you six months' free gym membership at either Cannons or Holmes place gyms. The offer ends 28 February. You get the gym membership when your first payment comes out of your account.
How much does the insurance cost?
The price you pay depends on a raft of variables – age, health, location, whether you smoke. So while this is a cracking deal for a non-smoking, 24-year-old, living outside London (we were quoted £18 a month), it mightn’t be so cheap for a 55-year-old who smokes like chimney. But it doesn’t cost anything to get a quote – so if you were thinking of signing up to one of these gyms anyway it's worth a shot.
Can I cancel?
If you cancel your PruHealth membership, your gym membership will also be automatically cancelled. But you can cancel your insurance at any time so this might also be a good option for those who don’t want to be tied into a year’s contract.

Wow - you are a real star! I've just got Cannons membership and health insurance for £19 per month! The normal membership is £55!
Thankyouthankyouthankyou xDebt free date: October 2006 :money:0 -
I think the membership prices are inflated to begin with
I dont know of this gym near us.
Is it a southern company ?0 -
So does anyone know if I can get the reduced membership from Holmes Place and still pay with my Tesco clubcard points?! Now that would be a good deal!0

I had a quote on this at my work yesterday but will not be taking this up until June as I understand that David Lloyd will be coming on and they are the closest of all the chains to me.
From what I understand you get a voucher which entitles you to join the gym for a one off fee of £25 then pay £25 per month for the membership.
This policy is very different to any others you can reduce your premiums in future years for being healthy and thinking about your health.
It does this by way of a points system with I think 4 tiers of over 1000 points (Silver), 1500 Points (Gold) and 2000 Points (Platinum). Under 1000 points is bronze.
You can accrue points in different ways, a gym visit is worth 10 points – so go twice a week for 48 weeks of the year and that would give you 960 points (your monitored via when you swipe into the gym). Being a non-smoker is worth 150 points. A free fitness assessment at the gym gives you 300 points (I think you can do these twice a year – equalling 600 points). Reading articles and using meal plans from their website are worth points as well as reducing your blood pressure and cholesterol.
Your 2nd year premium includes an age related increase, medical inflation at 7% and assumes there are no claims made in year one. If you don’t amass any points you will be at the bronze level and this would give you a 25% discount after the increase. Silver a 50% reduction, gold 75% and platinum 100%. So if you hit the top all your paying is the level of increases.
As an example my premium (core) with a £0 excess and all hospitals with and outside the M25 was:
Year 1 £37.41
Year 2 £40.03 (medical inflation etc)
Year 2 Bronze £30.68
Year 2 Silver £21.32
Year 2 Gold £11.97
Year 2 Platinum £2.62
So Gym membership and medical insurance for £27.62 per month sounds good to me. I think my council leisure centre is £300 pa and you have to pay it up front!0 -
does anyone who has signed up to this great-sounding offer know what the minimum term for the health insurance is? will you be tied in for a full 12-months?0
-
The website syas something along the lines of 'if you cancel this insurance at any time, your free gym membership will automatically be cancelled at the same time', so presumably you can cancel within the first six months anyway.Debt free date: October 2006 :money:0

I am a member at Cannons, though may use this for my husband. I really recommend it- you want to go and exercise when all the facilities are so lovely. Also, though I don't know how this would fit with this deal, once you are a member your kids get a decent deal. So for my 9 year old it is £10 a month, which includes lots of free clubs, and for teenagers £25. Prices vary from club to club.
Cannons and Holmes place ( I think) both always have pools. Also, once you have memberships for kids or yourself you don't pay in advance, just a month at a time, and you can freeze your payments if you are not going to use it for a month ( I think.)0 -
I am desperate to lose three stones. Pru is quoting me £32.85 which is brilliant if I will indeed recieve six months free membership at my 'local' Holmes Place(in Cricklewood), I say local as it's 15 minutes from office!!
Am I right in gathering I pay the £32.85 for six months and if I continue(which i doubt) then I will have to start paying an additonal £25 for the gym membership?
I also need to ensure there are no nasty small print conditions, cos this offer looks too good to be true!!Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

M.A. - interesting to hear that David Lloyd might be becoming part of the deal. Please add anything more you hear about this to this thread. It's also the nearest club to me, but also the most expensive!0
