  • Receive my acceptance letter. However beware they have now requested me to take 2 forms of originial I.D. into a local branch to complete the request. They have enclosed a copy of the form I completed online.

No doubt they will try to sell me every extra and insurance policy available!

Will let you know how I get on.

Why walk with the money (chance of losing it etc!). You get an online account with this use this facility to log on with a nice cup of coffee transfer, then do the same the next day only back into your high interest account.

What are the chances of losing all that money if going from one bank NEXT DOOR to another. That would be remarkably absent minded.
There is a very small security risk, but that's it. No-one would carelessly lose £1000 in cash, especailly if they were moving it physically from 1 bank to another

Received confirmation this morning in the shape of a pre-filled application form mandate along with a signature specimen sheet which must be returned to Barclays via post. On receipt of these, my new account details will be sent.

Whats interesting though is that they have changed/added/left out details on the application form sent out compared to what I entered on the online form !!!

Home phone number - changed to my old number.
Work number - which i purposely left blank due to the nature of my job has now been filled in with a number from my employers old address.
Financial questions such as other c/cards etc have been left blank.
Time at current address has been changed from 20 years to 5 ???

Wondering whether to correct all these 'errors' or return it signed as it is ?

You should try living in Wales! In April 1996, most of the counties of Wales changed, but for some reason only the Post Office and a few companies have heard about this. So for people living in areas where the town is the same as the county (Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Wrexham) their systems put the old non-existant county on, and people in Anglesey have an address with TWO counties in it, namely Anglesey, Gwynedd! I can't get a 0% credit card from Sainsbury's as they won't accept this, and because my street shares a postcode with another street, they claim that my address doesn't exist.

Anyway, back on topic. Does anyone know how to bypass the "student" option, as I'm currently a student but they won't let me open the account if I enter student. I don't have an employer either so I can't put that down either.

  • Hi folks,

We've just received confirmation that this bonus has been withdrawn. Big shame!

Martin has commented on that in the other thread, see here

What happens if you signed up for the account before they pulled the plug on it, is it still going to pay £100, if I make 2 deposits of £1000 over

Same here - other bank account, length of time with employer etc changed. I corrected the important ones. They also ticked the overdraft box on the back so I scribbled "Not applicable" all over the back of the form :)

  • The excitement and anticipation has finally got the better of me and I could wait no longer! I've just phoned the freephone number posted earlier on this thread and I have been accepted. The form to sign is on its wait. Thanks OP [and Barclays for the free money] ;)

does, what scoobylou says above, mean that so long as the origional application was made online before 12.30 today, then i qualify for the £100, regardless that i took my id to the branch and completed the application after the offer was withdrawn???

i just called several numbers to barclays to try and confirm, and eventually got the o.k but i remain to be convinced!!! don't want to put a couple of grand (me and the missus) into a duff a/c for nothing!!
