I am shocked that anyone thanked you for this post. You are obviously angry and hurting that you have lost your Mum. I know that feeling well but the op was merely asking advice on what to get HER mom. Time will heal anger and grief and in the meantime there are lots of lovely caring people on here that would help and support you, but not if you make upsetting posts like this.
Wow. I'm more shocked at your post tbh. You make an awful lot of assumptions whilst castigating this poster. You are a classic example of someone who adds heads and tails onto a story and reads more into things than is already there. It was a quip. End of. Not to your liking but that's all it was...not to your liking. It doesn't mean the poster requires analysis and advice.
If everyone would stop to think, instead of having an emotional kneejerk reaction, they might realise it's all different strokes for different folks.
My Mother is dead but she had a sense of humour and she would have raised a smile at that. As did I. I can understand some people not finding it amusing but for goodness sake that doesn't mean that those who do are somehow lesser mortals and in need of help.
OP, you've had some good ideas from others so there's not much I can suggest. Does Mum have any particular hobbies you could work round? I bet you end up buying chocolates.Herman - MP for all!0 -

When I was a student I used to wrap my presents really really fancy (unfortunatly still do...and spend way to much on wrapping stuff!!!), then no-one noticed how little I'd spent!0 -

I bet I do as well aliasojoBut yes, there's been plenty of good ideas. I actually fancied getting her a novel or two, but she'll moan that she can get them from the library...

I've got my mum a new moble from Play.com for £15, as she is always moaning about not hearing her ringtone, made sure it was same network as her currect PAYG so she can just swap over her sim... hope she likes it!
Also some slippers, shower gel, and a book....
On reading these posts, i'm going to get a wheat bag too, as they sound lush!
I think i'll get her a wee bottle of Baileys too, so she can have a drink on Xmas day...
thanks to all for the ideas, and to OP for posting and sparking the debate...I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Some great PAYG mobile deals on at the moment - I got my Gran one was £2.88!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0

My mum is one of those who says 'I'm easy to buy for, get me anything'. But.. she doesn't like chocs, is diabetic anyway, allergic to most perfumes and without fail on Christmas day will open her present, go 'very nice' in a tone which means 'what possessed you?', but will never actually tell you so you can take it back, so it's always difficult to buy for her.
This year, too poor to really buy anything, not using credit at all, so have got hyacinth bulbs and found a nice pot, got some tea light candles and holders which I've wrapped up really posh, and vouchers that I got from doing surveys.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
