  • My Mum will be getting a bottle of nice port (she likes it but only buys the cheaper stuff!), a cup with a design that DS did at nursery on it, and a picture of DS in a nice (BOGOF in Boots!) silver frame.... Nothing expensive, but all things I know she will like.

    I made small red stockings to hang on the tree - finding mini pressies was difficult! Mum has a minature teddy bear in hers. Plus Mamma Mia on Blu-ray as she has just bought herself a HD LCD tv last week with blu-ray box.

    MIL is getting a small glass ornament and Step Mum is getting a watch for her stocking.

    My mum will be getting a american version of il divo latest album as well as a japenese copy of the same cd. Why the american one if bought from a particullar shop came with a bonus track. And the japenese one also has a track which isnt put on the uk version.. As you have guessed my mum is il divo mad.. In fact all her pressies from me and my kids and my dad are il divo..

  • I bought my mum a pot for outdoors (garden centre was selling sp offer) & filled it with pansies, heathers, little evergreens & then spring flowering bulbs to come through later. It still stands by her front door!

    but not when people who are very recently bereaved are going to read the thread too

    I've recently lost my Grandmother and I found the post quite funny!

    In fact she got a letter recently saying she'd not paid her council tax for two months. We were going to take the urn to appear in court.
  • I lost my dear mother ten years ago on 7 December and I did wince at that earlier post, I guess everyone deals with bereavement differently; big hug to those who've lost their loved ones.

    Anyway - here's what we've got for my lovely MIL;
    • a digital keyring preloaded with photos of her favourite grandson (£9.99 from play.com),
    • a Portmeiron Totem Jar (old 70's design, she had loads of it and it all got broken over the years but she still loves it so much) filled with Bombay Mix, her favourite snack. Got the jar off Ebay, it's in immaculate condition.
    • And then a joint pressie with the FIL is a gorgeous new set of cutlery from Tesco's Finest to replace the nasty cheapo set they use (MIL hates it but FIL doesn't see the need to buy anything better!).
    And for my stepmum;
    • another digital keyring, same as above!
    • A Lavera eyeliner pencil, had a conversation with her about looking for a nice soft one that doesn't drag the skin.
    • posh lip balm - she loves lip stuff!
    • A pyrex jug - hers is so ancient the glass has gone white and the handle's come off - filled with Bassetts licquorice allsorts.
    • DVD - Constant Gardener
    Having a nightmare finding something for my 87 yr old nan though - she's asked for a brown handbag but I can't find a "nan-bag" anywhere! :rolleyes2

    Have you thought about looking in a charity shop for a 'Nan' bag? Very often they have that sort of bag which looks totally unused!

    My Mum is getting the new Il Divo cd along with some M&S Royal Jelly smellies and a huge pot of Options drinking chocolate from Costco cos she loves it and this is the biggest one I can find :D

    My sister (who is more well off than me ;)) bought her a new HDTV for the lounge for her birthday and Christmas but will no doubt get her something to open on Christmas Day.

    Mine wanted some purple boots so I got them, and I have just found a few other bits some Mills and Boon books, some retro sweets (walnut whips, sherbet fountain and blackjacks!) but she keeps buying herself things since i showed her play.com !

    lovethymini - have you got the keyrings yet and are they good? That might be a good idea for my mum, but I'm worried the pictures are really tiny. Are they big enough to show photos OK?

    I've got my mum a book but I'd like to get her something else as well.
