  • my mum lives half the year in Australia and half here (only the summer, such as it is, so she's back in Oz now,) but she loves really nice PJ's, she much prefers loungin round the house in those, rather than joggies, she's a young 74 year, so I bought her a really nice pair of black PJ's from Asda back in September. They were really nice and dressy too, so she can wear them sitting outside on nice balmy evenings .......remember those:D

For me, When DD and DS ask what I want, I usually just say "oh get me anything" but this year when they asked.... I pointed them to "Accessorize" and said anything from there please:D

  • My Mum and Dad have both retired this year. The are both fit and healthy(Thank God) I have bought them a years membership to the National Trust and a small gift each.
I hope they have plenty of nice weather next year for their trips out.

  • Hi there, a good present I got for my mum's birthday was a diary jar (an idea that came from one of these forums!). The jar contained 100 questions to ponder and answer, for example "What do you remember about your holidays as a child?""Describe any family traditions you had or may still have". The answers then need to be recorded in a diary and are a fantastic way of recording some personal family history. It also gives the writer great pleasure to remember the past.

I've since seen that a company has presented this gift in a slightly different way, they've created a diary book which has these types of questions already printed at the top of each blank page. They are called "from you to me" and it is suggested that the completed book is returned to the giver as a record of their story.

It's a great way to record family information and I'm hoping to get a couple back sometime next year. The books can be given to Mums, Dads, Grandads, friends etc and the questions are changed accordingly. There is a website (which I've just looked at) giving you all the info. www.fromyoutome.com I hope this is of some help.
  • if mum was still here i would tell her how much i loved her, chat about simple things, hug her and tell her that i appreciate all the wonderful things she did for me and how special she is

  • Any chance - same here if my dad was still alive, i really miss just talking to him - it always seems that he knew the answers to everything.

For my mum this Christmas i've got her a family calendar - with pictures of us kids and her grandkids - think she will really like it. It was meant to be free with Pigsback but by the time i got to check out it was £7. Dont mind as i still think its a great gift.

Also got her a nice bed set and throw - wanted to put some colour in her room.

    Hi all :)
I'm wondering what to buy Mum. I could ask her and she'll say 'Oh just get me some chocolates', like she does every year. You might think 'Get her choccies then!', she does like them and I do get them'...every birthday & Christmas. It would be nice to surprise her...I just need a little inspiration...So what's everyone getting their Mums? :)

    HI,
my mum lives in the Eastern Europe and she doesn't have much spare cash for luxuries. So I buy as many little things as possible.
I've got so far - warm posh pyjamas, luxury box with Jenifer Lopez perfume, huge box of Celebration chocolates, warm cuddly socks for bed... I might buy some more at the airport before we go on the plane - this year the biggest present she is getting is the fact that we are flying home for Christmas;)

    Awww Any, that's lovely!

I've spent 2 years scouring 2nd hand book shops for a particular local history book they want that has been out of print for years. I finally found it (for the bargain price of £36....which when you consider the only other one I've seen sold on ebay for over £100 is a fantastic price) and I'm so excited about giving them it.

I've made a 'Yorkshire' hamper as it's a joint present for her and my Dad, with Yorkshire Mixtures, Yorkshire Tea Loaf, specialist beers brewed at the local brewery etc.

I'm really hoping they will like it. :o

  • My mum has just got an allotment, so this year she will be getting garden centre vouchers so she can by seeds etc and we can have wonderful fresh fruit and veg. If she is lucky, I may even give her a hand planting stuff out.

I too have bought both my mum and dad magazine subscriptions. I started this a few years ago and they liked them so much that I just renew every year for their christmas.
I also bought them boxes of their favourite sweets and a gift voucher for their favourite (expensive) restaurant. They could never afford to pay themselves and they'll probably use it for their anniversary next month.
