New year Old Style resolutions...

  • Here are my top five resolutions. Not all OS, but planning on doing them the OS/MSE way! :)

    - Sort out finances. We're already debt free, but I need to look into the best way to manage and increase savings as its our new goal to own a house in a couple of years.
    - Clear out the clutter I've accumulated since moving here a year ago. Granted, there's not that much but there's more than I would like. Particularly books, must use my library more!
    - Limit takeaways to once per week. This has gotten particularly bad in the past month because I've been really stressed at work so didn't feel like cooking when I got home. :o
    - Eat more vegan low-GI meals, as it's when I feel the healthiest. Will aim for most breakfasts/lunches and perhaps 2 dinners per week. Don't think DH would agree to more than that.
    - Lose weight. Was doing very well but been on hold for too long due to stress. Hoping the above two points will help with that. This should then help other health issues as I have PCOS.
  • 1. get rid of some of the useless crap i have amassed
    2. cut electricity use to less than £5 a week
    3. cut food costs to £7 a week

  • This year

I am going to learn to knit - courtesty of my MIL
I am going to make all my own bath bombs and stuff - Christmas pressie from Mum a big start!
I am going to grow loads of food - or rather I'm going to supervise OH doing the planting out as I may be too fat! (DS due 01/05)
This time next year we are going to have some money saved (however little it will be a start!)
I am going to find some time to get my craft stuff out again - heaven only knows where from, I may have to give up sleeping! but with number 2 on way that's a distinct possibility anyhow! Lol

The success of my resolutions is going to partly depend on my OH. I often find it difficult to drag him along with me so perhaps I should add to my resolutions, improving my art of persuasion.

    1. To divest ourselves of unnecessary household possessions. Our loft is full to overflowing. I reckon if those items which which stored in case "they might come in useful one day" haven't been used for ten years, they've probably become obsolete anyway. (OH hovers around whenever I try to have a clear out, inspecting dustbins and bags for the charity shop, so half the stuff ends up being put back in situ !)
    2. To try and lose some weight (again!). This year part of my technique will be to have smaller portion sizes, use smaller plates and to have one day a week as a "Fruit only" day.
    3. To try and get a little fitter. The outdoor gym in our local park should help here and save money on a gym subscription..
    4. To continue keep our domestic paperwork and finances in good shape. The state of the economy makes it more important than ever that we keep track of the best interest rates for our savings and get the best deals for utilities and insurances, etc.
  • I need to get back onto the MSE wagon again....

    I will
    - Meal plan - already done this months up til payday (17th Jan)
    - Make sure I use up all the left overs in the planners
    - Not come home and open a bulging fridge and say I've got nothing in
    - No more than 1 takeaway per month
    - Get more organised - started a FlyLady type journal yesterday
    - Be more aware of where the pennies go - got a wallet in the journal to save all those recipts in and then force myself to check them all at the end of the month
    - Gone back to sealed pot - religiously putting the money in from the multi buys and what the original cost was for the whoopsies

Think that will do for now...off to post on Meal Planner thread :)
Anywhere is within walking distance - if you have the time!!
  • well I'm committed to mealplanning in2011 and more sensible shopping for food.
I also want to use the slow cooker more.

I will not be paying any late payment fees in 2011 and the credit card balance has to be sizeably reduced - sorry mr amazon!
I want to sort my finances out properly - and keep tabs on what i spend!

I want to sort Christmas out much earlier like I did in 2009 - so I will be picking stuff up throughout the year.
I will make lists of what I have bought for who - so the last week before Christmas isn't chaos! Trying to finish shopping in awful weather with a bad back was a real lesson leaned!
    :jFlylady and proud of it:j

Lots of inspirational ideas on this thread thank you all and good luck to everyone.
Like a lot of other posters I really want to lose weight this year and I'm determined to learn how to sell things on Ebay! I know how to buy things:o We moved recently and I gave loads of stuff to charity shops. Nice thought, but it could have helped fund our renovation project. It can't be that difficult can it?
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

    Mine are:
to get back to excercising again. We were running 3 times a week but have let that lapse and I want to feel fit again.
keep to the one chocolate bar a week rule and not cheat by buying a bigger bar.
Try to get the veg garden at least partly productive now that there is less time available due to work. My poor Greenhouse has been so empty this year and we only bought it in 2009 after wanting a real one for such a long time.
I think I will stick with just those 3 this year :P

I sometimes think it's better to have fewer objectives and actually achieve them. Sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves when time and energy is in short supply. Quality of achievement is sometimes better than Quantity.
  • Last year my resolution was to start being more OS and certainly managed that so need some more specific resolutions I think!

Harldy waste any food, but want to reduce it more and encourage my flatmates to do so, too. They live off ready meals and I'm shocked how much packaging and food they throw away so might suggest I cook once or twice a week for all of us and they can contribute towards the ingredients.

Reuce the amount of paper/general packaging I throw away and try to find other uses for it. Started printing my course notes double sided and using scrap for drafts of essays etc, but need to do better!

Need to try and save a bit more and not fritter money away on little things. Try and save money from my wages over xmas for summer hol. Luckily been given lots of useful things for xmas like toiletries so shouldnt have to buy any for a while.

Also, take cash out for each week and when it's gone it's gone. Seems to be the only way to control my spending!

Good luck and Happy New Year to everyone! _party_
    Proud to be OS :j
