New year Old Style resolutions...

Tried meal planning but never really managed to stick with it - then after about 3 weeks my cupboards were do empty it cost me fortune to restock - realising I am prob a pretty savvy shopper and very very little food ever goes to the bin. So maybe meal planning not for me - just take advantage of special offers and keep on top of what is perishable and going out of date and be aware not to waste anything, After all when it hits tea time you dont always fancy what is on the menu and may have a craving for something tasty-specific!!! As long as no wastage and no extravagant buts reckon its ok imo0

I have so many things i want to do next year.

- Learn how to knit.
- Get our back garden into shape and grow loads of veg.
- Keep a diary for appointments and keep in handbag.
- Do flylady lists each day.
- Finish decorating the house.
- Be better prepared for birthdays, holidays, christmas ect.
- Be debt free by next christmas.
- Gather up some savings.
- I also need to loss 4 stone by next November for my BIL wedding. This will be the hardest.

Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough. And things go wrong no matter what I do.Now and then it seems that life is just too much. But you've got the love I need to see me through.:j :j0 -
Good Thread and i've thought of some more to add to the food purse one...
Mine are:
1. Less takeaways (have already cut down a lot, but will batch cook my favourites and freeze so if I want a curry late at night, I have one in the freezer ready)
3. Try to find what I want second hand on ebay
3. Grow all our salad and some veg this year (i've done it before and it saved me a fortune)
5. Use my online banking to pay off extras on my CCs regularly thru the month, even if I just pop on and add a fiver - I've been doing this for a while with spare cash and its making a huge difference)
6. Sort out the house and keep it tidier
I don't usually do New Year Resolutions but I feel quite positive about these ones
Good luck to everyone making OS resolutions0 -
My DH and I have just been discussing this and so far have agreed on the following
1 Spend Less = Save Money
2 Buy Less = Use up what we have in the freezers and storecupboard = Save Money
3 Eat Less= Lose weight and fit into lots of clothes already hanging in the wardrobe unworn = Save Money
4 Mealplan = Being more organised and not wondering at 4pm what we should get out of the freezer for tea = Save Money
There seems to be a trend here of saving money, if I can do all the above beyond January I will be very chuffed with myselfI hope I can stay on the wagon in 2011

I have a few resolutions this year:
- Meal plan - or at least stick to some sort of plan when it comes to meals instead of opting for sandwiches or take-away or buying for the sake of buying when I can't be bothered.
- Cut back on the take-aways. There's been a couple of weeks (dotted throughout the year, not one after the other) when we've had takeout at least 3 times in one week
- Cook from scratch more!
- Make more interesting lunches to take to work instead of buying them from the shop or chippy
- Budget & STICK TO IT
- Pay off my £2k overdraft... or as much as I can since I'm on benefits so finances are tight anyway
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Good luck everybody!
My plans are:
Make one visit to Costco per month for such things as Tea bags, toilet rolls and meat!
Stop making loads of random trips to the shop which end up at least £20
Lose a stone!
Eat as many home made lunches at work as poss
Clear as much clutter as poss esp DS2s room
Save up in NHS credit union for birthdays and next Christmas
Get allotment sorted for big growing season next year ( we got one last summer - it's great)
That'll do for now I think we'll see how it goes eh?Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
I get a veggiebox (plus any other food bits I order) on Tuesdays or Wednesdays so my plan for 2011 is that I do a top-up food shop on Tuesday or Wednesday each week for the week and fill up the car with fuel that day.
On the last day of each month (or as near as possible, diary permitting) I do all the non-food shopping needed for the next month. That includes cleaning materials, toiletries, kitchen/cooking hardware, garden stuff, anything for the car, clothes, presents, stationery, things for sewing/knitting/mending, (self-employed and home-ed) work needs etc.
I've been planning this for a while and have some good long lists of things to buy before January 1st. I may not manage it 100% to start with but the intention is to have this way of organising everything fully functioning by the end of the year. (And this means that the whole of Xmas 2011 must be purchased by November 30th. Gulp.)
Payments for things like my quarterly hair-dresser appointments, dentist, optician, utilities, car bills etc are not included in the NSD plan.
Good luck to everyone with your plans.

Am going back to work in January after severe depression and have changed the stressful job to spend more time with the family.
Resolutions are:
Budget and stick to it
I have more than enough clothes - so rediscover my wardrobe
Bake and freeze rather than buy ready meals
Use the flylady/organised home printables and system to make more time
Use up the lovely toiletries that have been presents
Good luck to everyone!

Mine are (this year) to try and keep organised in all matters OSly. To try and keep to food budgets and mealplans, and to make the most of what I have. If I try to achieve anything else, I don't know if I'll be able to do it. The only other thing I want to try is to improve my cooking skills and learn to make exciting and different meals.
And I shall try to walk to more places!
