    Mortgage-free Glee!
I really need to get my food bill down, so, meal planning every week and not only sticking to my list ( I usually do!) but ensuring that we use up leftovers. That's another big one for me. I'm tired of throwing stuff away that we've paid for.
Also - I have an overlocker which I have never used...so I need to use it for sewing - I have a huge stash of material built up over many years, and using it up would be really OS.
If I can get those two licked I'll have done well!
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!

I usually have just 1... To make no resolutions = and so far I have never broken it :D

Me too :D I made that resolution a good 10 years or more ago and it's never failed yet.

A couple of years ago I decided to have a new year challenge rather than a resolution. My challenge was not to eat any crisps all year (silly I know) and I managed it until about October when I forgot and ate one!

I was going to challenge myself to sew one new thing each week for this year, and I managed precisely zero. I think I'm just going to stick to my usual resolution not to make any :rotfl:
  • I have 3 this year:

    1. Lose the rest of the weight I need to get rid of, 3 stone down since June, but I having a "break" for Christmas and trying not to go too overboard!
    2. Have regular 15 minute blitz sessions cleaning the house
    3. Learn how to use a sewing machine, my Mum gave me her old one and really must get to grips with it.

Crocheting gifts throughout the year to give to people next xmas
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • I've done quite well with my previous 'challenges', meal planning, cooking from scratch and using up craft stash so I'll be continuing with those again as well as being more active using my pedometer (increasing my daily target). I might try to stick within my food budget again this year although this is being quite a challange with the price increases lately, so I'll have to see how that one goes.

Can I join in? My resolutions will be
    * to use up all my stocks before going to the supermarkets - this will mean clever meal planning!
    * not to have so much in my cupboards in future!
    * when I buy to only buy from oops'd items!

However when it comes to clothes and things for me my resolution would be not to buy cheap and cheerful - but more quality and classic with a twist. Also will be starting to make christmas presents for next year.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • After a difficult year I am going to be kind to myself in 2012 :) Instead of trying to lose 10lbs, save more cash, cut back, declutter, be more organised etc etc (all of which I have decided to do at the start of every year) My OS resolution - I am going to Enjoy what I have and Buy Less.

More positive (I know its not very specific) and upbeat, but I mean the sentiment.

  • Oh, I like the idea of OS resolutions.

    I would like to:

    - Buy less, already made quite a good start on that this year, but still would like to have paycheck left at the end of the month :rotfl:
    - Waste less - make meals with leftovers, use food before it goes off, remember to put leftovers in the fridge so that they are actually edible the following day :o etc
    - Keep on top of the tidying/housework routine (although I'm not sure I can call something so haphazard a routine) that we seem to have established this year
    - Grow at least one edible thing, even if I have to use the garden centre to get me started (I have the opposite of green fingers)
    - Have more fun!
In a better financial position than ever before (thank you MSE!). Moved back to Scotland and now trying to keep debt-free!
  • I think New Year Challenge sound less restrictive and more 'do-able'
My New Year Challenge would be
To use up the rest of my food in the freezer if possible and stay away from supermarkets and 'impulse' buying Its so easy to think 'Oh thats a bargains i'll have that ' bring it home freeze it and forget it I am going to be even more focussed than usual as I really have to get my freezer emptied for defrosting. What I shall do when all the hullabaloo of the holiday has finished is sit down and work out a menu using as much as possible from my freezer.I shall do it a week at a time to ensure I am using virtually everything I can.I looked in my store cupboard the other day and found that I have 15 tins of chopped tomatoes that I seem to have got over the past few months simply by buying them if I saw them on the offer. So they are all going to be used up in some way or other.
I have three jars of Hellmans in the fridge ??? why do I need three jars .Oh yes I remember they were on the offer .So special offers are out from now on until everything is gone .Stern measure have to be taken and my purse is staying firmly shut if at all possible during January .Its going to be some odd meals at times but thats my challenge to myself ,to rid myself of this food mountain that has accumulated over the past few months.
Any fancy joining me?? I'm sure we all have tins and bits at the back of the cupboard that doesn't see the light of day too often
    Cheers JackieO xx

I aim to join you to an extent, JackieO. However i can't inflict too much of that on the kids, so OH and I might have some odd meals.

I would like to buy less and sell more. Really try to declutter the house.
Get the kids to help more - starting today, when DS is going to help with the baking. I owe it to myself and them to train them up but have a bit of a battle with OH about it.
Extend the veg patch in the garden, and be a bit more organised about it.
Be a bit kinder to myself and not feel that i have to do everything
Spend less time on the internet.
Have more family time, rather than us all sitting in different rooms.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
