Todays report..5 cards without numbers, one for Jim and Wendy no number just the street, one posted with a one penny stamp, various wrong numbers and one of my favourites, keys left in the door whilst the owner has gone out.And i should give a mention to the four packets left on the doorstep of a house by our friends DHL and the women is away until after Christmas...

i'm getting that i'm looking forward to wullie's daily reports, they are showing other's what a postie's day is like :j

    Had a gr8 one yesterday....

Monday an old lady calls up, the postman didn't wait for me long enough to get to the front door (she had a broken hip recently), I apologised and offered her a redelivery, making her aware that as the parcel wasn't back in delivery office yet, i could get it back out to her by wednesday, 48 hrs from original posting, with special instructions of a keep safe place for the postie. Customer was happy. Tuesday the daughter calls up, rather abusive that the packet hadn't arrived, even after i told her it was back in the office and due for delivery tomorrow, she basically told me that i was a liar and wanted to complain of a missing packet after 24 hrs  I have the strangest feeling that this is one of the ones that might go missing from her keepsafe place

Postmen complaining about getting letters without the correct information on, such as no address etc...

Fair enough the person who initially posted the letter is at fault, but then again isn't it your colleagues responsibility in the "sorting office" to "sort" that out?!
one for Jim and Wendy no number just the street

How exactly can a letter with just a persons name and a street name be sent to the correct street? There must be hundreds of places in the UK with the same street name, just for example "Brookside", I know of at least two places in Leeds with this street name.
one posted with a one penny stamp

Again, isn't this the responsibility of the workers in the "sorting" office, don't they hold the letters back and send out a card saying they have to collect it and pay the postage??

Postmen should stop moaning about their jobs and get on with it like everybody else, at the end of the day if it was nurses or policemen complaining people might have some sympathy for you. But no, all you have to do is deliver some letters, and a lot of the time this is messed up, yet you have the cheek to complain all the time.
  • I have just had to make a serious complaint today.

They had a temp postie on, and he delivered a Special Delivery item whilst I was out (I wasn't expecting it, hence why I wasn't in to accept it)....anyway, he couldn't get an answer from my door, so he signed for it himself and left it in "A safe place"...that safe place was my wheelie bin which was out in the street awaiting collection, in fact if I had been 5 minutes later it would have been taken away by the bin men

That is really really bad but im wondering how much "training" that temp was given.

Forget training - this is a case of common sense. Wheelie bin with rubbish in is obviously awaiting collection...

I've had the usual stories about, lost, late or destroyed post - but I'm generally happy with our postie. My only problem is collecting from the sorting office. If I'm out during the day (work) and I've had recorded post (I try to get these delivered to work) why are collecting times office hours?? 9-4.30pm is no good for me and they won't let others collect it. I think they should open in the evening, I'm sure more people would collect earlier and relieve the very busy offices.

I also think they should have business counters, this time of the year it's impossible to send things RM as the general public block up the POs. My work is sending everything carrier as you can't get near a PO counter at 4pm.

Happy Christmas to all posties on MSE :santa2:

I'm fairly sure they do allow someone else to collect it for you, they have to take some id and i think you have to sign the card or something to say its not you collecting.

I had to collect something yesterday and from the 15th - (i think) the 24th, our sorting office is open until 7.30pm

My bug bear is that my post doesn't arrive until 12.30 earliest!

For me it is hell if a parcel has been taken back to the sorting office. I have no transport and the sorting office is a fair distance away, so I have to attempt to rearrange delivery, not easy when the sorting office constantly fails to answer the phone no matter how long you leave it ringing. I have tried the online redelivery service, but they seem to either not get the message, or ignore it, as they always fail to redeliver if I use that method.

what would someone is the sorting office(im assuming you are reffering to mail centres) know about who lives where on a street?
yes there are many same name streets and RM move these letters around trying to find the correct delivery office/street

so the OP does someone a favour but somewhow they are in the wrong

i think you will finds its light hearted but if people used return addresses and a better attempt to use the correct address then there wouldnt be so many 'lost' cards would there?
