The trouble is here is not mlm its you and the thousands like you and i dont mean this nastily.MlM is basically one of the hardest systems to master but is not impossible. The whole concept of it is selling dreams to dissatisfied people who dont have the money so escape the rat race.Yet there lies the problem if it was easy we would all be financially free. The trouble is you have obviously spent more than you can afford. Why? I know five people who have successful businesses in mlm and all have certain things in common.1 they all only put the money they can afford in to it.2. Its the only thing in teir lives they live and breathe it.3 all 5 know each other from other businesses4. An element of luck. Its all about numbers everyone who sets up a business doesnot become successful and some indeed a lot will lose money. Its just like gambling and drinking there are those who win big and those who lose big. Thats life and no i have not been successful in mlm i failed miserably but i dont blame the company i knew what i was getting in to and finally all these mlm have one thing in common and its very important this and when you join them you sign to say that you understand this THE EARNINGS DISCLAIMER
Good luck with the rest of your life mate and i hope you find someway of getting your money back through other avenues i have

Great to see some of the stuff written on AMWAY some good some bad, but isnt that true of most organisations, Amway is not the baddie here but some of the people who join could make mother theresa look bad.
I am an active amway abo and very happy with my network organisation.yes i did buy tools but for my own personal use, not to sell to my downline.
Thankfully all tools are now having to be authorised by AMWAY.
And i am very happy that IBS have been kicked out of the amway business and not before time i add.
for some years i have been answering questions from my prospects who know someone" who lost money in amway". and IBS have been instrumental in a lot off the negative ideas created around the business.
I personally have some friends who were 5 years ago dedicated amway distributors with IBS who have told me they are out cause they lost money and they will not even look at another system.
It is such a shame, in reality the Amway oppertunity is a good one. and with the right organisation you can get what you want, but its not, NOT, NOT GET RICH QUICK. and if thats why you got in, then i guess you joined the wrong
    training organisation.
look for the most successfull people in the business and join them, thats what i did and as i said, "i am very happy!"

    Hi,

My experience with IBS/Amway was the same. I lost over £13.000, many of my friends and family as I operated this 'Business'.

But watch this space folks, the edifice is crumbling rapidly as the revelations that the entire scheme was a scam as the IBS 'Leaders' made the majority of thier income from the sales of Books, Tapes and Functions. It ammounts to an awful lot of money. A huge number of the Emeralds and high pins quit when it became clear that they could NEVER achieve the huge levels of J&M S and P&G G. We were all scammed big time, I hadn't realised until the past few weeks. Look out IBS, class action is coming. Never mind taking Amway to court, go for the true rip-off artists.

It should, of course be mentioned that AMWAY are in no way blameless here. Thanks to Scriven, Gregory, Butler, O'Brien, Harteis they have reaped the vast profits of the sale of product. At the very least they turned a blind eye to the grand scam that was the IBS system and actively encouraged it's development. I well remember AMWAY speakers at functions.

    Just seen this!

EX IBS EMERALDS ARE PREPARING A CLASS ACTION AGAINST IBS AND AMWAY.

A decision was made on Monday 17th December 2007 to go ahead with a Class Action against IBS and Amway (UK) Ltd. Former Emeralds, John and Nancy Lear and Neil and Ruth Salway have in recent months been contacted by hundreds of distributors, including many leading ex IBS Emeralds and Directs.

Last year Ruth Salway launched her debut novel ‘Through Rose-Coloured Glasses’.
The book was written over a five year period and helped Ruth to come to terms with the harrowing experiences she and her husband Neil had to endure while under the influence of IBS. The book was written to warn teenagers of the dangers of these parasitic schemes. The story evoked a lot of raw emotion for many distributors who were part of the same regime and prompted them to get in touch. The majority have been emotionally scarred and the financial loss is immense; something needed to be done to support these people and to rectify the damage.

Leading London lawyer, Clare Kirby who specialises in the evolving field of law known as ‘undue influence’, ( which falls outside of the 6 year statutory limitation claim period,) has been instructed to act on behalf of the distributors on a ‘no win no fee basis’. A case is being prepared and anyone who feels they have been affected by their involvement with Amway/IBS and would like to reclaim what was lost on the use of the IBS ‘system’ and time given free for the privilege to work at IBS functions is advised to get in touch with either John and Nancy Lear, Neil and Ruth Salway or Kirby & Co. Solicitors.

Can you give any more details such as a website or link to article?

Looks very interesting although I don't hold out much hope.

I wasn't downline of the Lears or the Salways, would that matter?

On the grounds of keeping this as balanced as possible, here are a few lines to share my experiences, and one or two comments in and among. I was part of the Amway organisation through the IBS line in the mid 90's, recruited through a business associate.

First of all, a couple of comments on what I have read in this fantastic thread.

    1. As far as I know Amway is not a pyramid system, it was explained very clearly to me that everyone in the Amway organisation paid the same for the goods, so that answered that.
    2. The goods sold were if excellent quality and I would buy it myself today if I knew where or who to get it from.
    3. The upline were over zealous in their approach to attending functions etc, I think some would struggle financially to get to every event.
    4. As said earlier by one poster, the majority of people I saw were struggling financially. I was told that if all someone wanted to do was make a few extra £'s by selling goods, that was fine, but to make the 'business' work and generate money, you needed to get several downline's going.

I actually enjoyed the motivational tapes very much, and actually got a rebuke for sourcing some tapes that were meant only for higher level distributers than I was at the time. I wasn't overly thrilled with the books, I think you are either into these things or not. I must say that I covered my costs through retailing, but didn't make a penny, and wondered when I was going to.

The reason I left Amway was one of moral principal. After being told right from the word go that any distributor breaking the ethics of the business would be thrown out without any recourse, something very important to me. Our second couple that we sponsored were a lovely couple who had their own retail business in the furniture trade, the girl was lovely and warmed to my wife very much. These people had been in the IBS line before but left trhe business because of lack of support. My wife and I are vey genuin people and realised that we woul have to look after anyone we sponsored, and our sponsors were also very nice, particularly the woman, who we are friendly with to this day. This was a key factor in our sponsoring this particular couple. To cut a long story short, when their previous direct found out we had sponsired them, he poached them from us, taking them away from our business. This was our second couple, and this was making me see red as it went again everything we were told from the word go.

After writing to the Gregory's, we were contacted by someone at pearl level who had been instructed to placate us with the reasoning that if the couple were willing to be poached then we should just get on with fnding someone new and moving forward. This was a huge issue with me, I knew the woman did not want to 'be poached' and I thought that if it could happen once it could happen again. To my wife and myself, it wasn't that we had had a couple poached from our down line by a direct, but that nothing what soever was done about it, and nothing would be done. Apparantly this direct was some sort of direct contact with Pat Gregory. At this point I got out on a matter of principle, to me it was a dishonourable act that was swept under the carpet dispite all the stuff about ethics.

I have no loyalties to the Gregory's or the Scrivens, but I admire them for sticking to their belief and making a success if themselves. Having read every post on this thread and every link, I have concluded that Amway Corp. Could have helped them through this and perhaps guided the Gregory's and the Scriven's onto a new path if they thought they were getting things wrong. Also, no one was forced to do anything they didn't want to. However, I do accept that there are the weaker among us who just either believe everything they are told or are not able to stand up to pressure from others.

As for who will succeed within the Amway system, I figured it out right from the start - 5%. Do I wish I could have succeeded? You bet I do. Had I reached Diamond I would have been set up for life, believe me. I do not know much about the experiences of the emeralds such as the Salway's, I'd really like to know what these people are doing now. Remember, all these people started with nothing. Having been self employed for many years, I can tell you that the start up cost for being an amway distributor is dirt cheap.

One final comment, I did feel pushed into doing things I didn't want and let my upline know that I felt too pressured. The change was immediate and the people doing the pushing backed off.

To all those invlved in any direct marketing, good luck to you and I hope you are all successful it's far from easy and as others have said, in no way a get rich quick scheme.
