Taking legal action against Amway or IBS

Heh reading this thread makes this whole thing sound like some kind of cult/Pyramid scam.
I'm sorry you want me to spend £20,000 of my cash on your tapes? LOL Jog on :rotfl:0 -
I was part of the Pat Gregory group from 95 to 2000 and made no profit at all. Everything I made was swallowed up in the books and tapes (over £700), travelling to plans/business meetings, seminar tickets and collecting the stock from my upline twice a week in Torquay which was a 200 mile round trip. Before I eventually found out from my upline (who by the way simply quit without telling me) I guessed that the Gregory's and Scriven's were making a huge amount of money from the tapes and books.
I can remember saying to my wife (who in fact very nearly divorced me because of 'the business') that if only half of the 50,000 UK distributors paid £10 per month for their 'tools' it would net IBS £250,000 per month without a single bottle of LOC changing hands. No wonder we were perpetually banging on about the only way to succeed is to get them (your downline) on the tape of the week and book of the month. They must have been making as much money (if not more) as they were from the Amway products.
Being in the hifi and music industry I know that those tapes would have only cost about 50p to produce so why were we paying £3.50? Also most of the books were more expensive from IBS than many bookstores at the time. I was told that the money went back in to the business - where, how much and what for?
I've binned all of my tapes and kept 4 of the PMA books. 5 years of my life wasted and thousands of pounds down the drain just for that! I missed out on my the first 5 years of my daughters life because I was so totally obsessed with 'building the business'.
Only a tiny fraction (about 0.5%) actually 'succeed' in with the IBS system. Everyone else is left with a VERY bitter taste in their mouth. I put every spare minute in to the business and did everything my upline told me. I did at least 2 plans per week every week and was absolutely 100% convinced that it was going to solve all my problems and I was going to be mega rich. And that, ladies and gentleman, is how they reel you in!
Good luck in court, you'll need it!0 -
I really enjoyed reading this thread ,
if anyone is still subscribed to it , what were the results of the court cases, and are there any links to see the results ?
I too was involved with IBS , back in the 90's , in Ireland. I enjoyed my time in "the system" and it did cost me a pretty penny , but I;m glad of it , as I still benifit from the ethos of it now.
I was really stunned when I read that Amway had pulled the rug out from underneath the Pat and Greata , Jerry and Mandy . They only ever promoted Amway in a good light .
Added to that , I was not in either of their downline , but through a Emerald couple called Stewart and Margaret Potts , who in turn were downline of Bill O'Brien in the USA.
So what if IBS made a few quid on their training system , I dont begrudge it.
Happily to say I would do it again , mabey not every meeting ,every book , and every tape.
Has anyone got a copy of "Diamond hits" by the way , I'd love to get a mp3 of it ,as I'd still listen to it today.0 -
Bullbars...bullsh17 more like it!!!
Sorry I know you're not pumping Scamway 100% but in all honesty reading your post gives the impression 'it's not all that bad'. [I guess that you could afford to lose the money that you did, many can't].
The reality is that it's a total and utter scam.
Have a look at Scamway in China for true horror stories.....Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hi Bullbars -
'So what if IBS made a few quid on their training system , I dont begrudge it.'
The problem is that these guys made around 75% of their money from their own training system - not Amway products. Many thousands of people trusted them and believed the lies: that we could live the dream by building a network of distributors selling the products. However their main objective was to sell the tapes and books, that's why the DTI and ultimately Amway came down on them.
Its true that all the PMA advice was sound, but for many - me included - the cost was unacceptably high.
I've seen comments posted about the cost comparison made to starting up other businesses such as plumbing or building. The flaw with this argument is if you earn a recognised trade or skill you have it for life and can lead to many opportunities. The top IBS people earned a lot of money but what have they got now? The people in their downline didn't earn six figure incomes but they spent 10's of thousands £'s on 'the business' which they will never get back. Being a qualified plumber or builder (the types of professions us Amway people scoffed at) doesn't sound so bad now!0 -
I was following this thread a few years ago, and have no re-read it.
I really feel sorry for the people who have wasted their time and money on these scams.
For those who haven't, steer clear.0
