  • Also (I'm so embarrassed, I can't believe I am telling you this!!!)

When the credit card statement came today, I noticed an entry on there for British Heart Foundation for £125!! I nearly dropped dead because I knew there was no way I could have spent that much in there. I did vaguely remember going in and buying some clothes that totalled in the region of £12.50 so my first thought was "oh my god, they have put the decimal point in the wrong place!!!"

So I phoned the charity shop and told them what had happened. They denied it saying that if it had happened their tills wouldn't have balanced, and they would have noticed being over £100 up on their accounts. I was adamant that I was correct, and they were adamant they were correct and suggested I ring the CC company.

I did this, and the lady said as I had admitted spending £12.50, it should have been up to me to check the amount when the terminal was handed for me on for the PIN number, and as I had effectively authorised it, it was between me and the shop. She said all she could do was send me the slip from the transaction for me to take to the shop. She suggested that the till receipt could have been correct (£12.50) and the pin machine receipt would prove I had been charged £125 so they would need to check their tills to see if a £125 transaction had gone through the tills that day.

Anyway as I was on the phone to the CC company I commented that it had taken a long time to go through. I knew I had bought the tops prior to the Take That concert, which is 28th June as I was planning on wearing one of them. To this she replied that no, it had been done on 9th July, which was last week!

So I panicked. I thought back to last Thursday and couldn't remember going shopping last Thursday.....then the penny dropped!

Where did we buy my brother's girlfriend's sofa from??? Yes (embarrassed) the British Heart Foundation shop. And how much was it?? Yes (embarrassed) £125. And how did I pay??? Yes (embarrassed): Credit card.

So - to say I am mortified is an understatement!

Anyway, I'm glad it's not a mistake that would be a nightmare to rectify!

Floozie (I'm wearing my little tin hat for this bit and hiding behind a very large sofa) if work for you is only 2 miles away (knowing Yorkshire thats probably two very steep hilly miles) and taking into account your recent comments about requiring drastic weight loss action perhaps an old fashioned bicycle would be the solution. It would be infinately cheaper than the £2K required for OHs car and your £1.80 a day bus fare would soon pay for a bike if you don't already have one and can't get one from Freecycle or borrow your childrens.

A bike. Are you mad? I have to get to work via the red light district - that's why I don't walk to work (for the sake of two miles). I don't want to get a rep as Bradford's first bicycling prostitute! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. Anyway, I'm not actually sure I can ride a bike. DS1 has a big bike now, and I got on that when he first got it and promptly almost fell off. It wouldn't be a bad idea either, as the journey to work is more or less straight, no hills involved and I bet I could freewheel to work most of the way (whilst fighting off advances from kerb crawlers whom I would hope would offer me more than £1.80) but no, a £3 daily bus ticket is the lowest I am prepared to stoop on my money saving quest!

  • I was uber organised yesterday! I worked out how much cash I need for petrol, bus fares, kid's football and newspaper bills and it is now in a jar in a cupboard so I know what is leftover is mine all mine *mwahahahahahahaha* (well apart from shopping money and summer holiday activity money) not that we have got anything planned.

My brother came around with £40 (he's paying in installments for the sofa),which I don't mind.

Still no reply from my friend for the Take That ticket money. It's the last time I go anywhere with her! I could stand her £5 for a cinema ticket but not £70! What a cheek.

    Money in purse: £50.80
    Money in bank: £856.63
Days til Pay day: 27 days.

I'm really going to try and budget better for grocery shopping this month, and not buy myself any clothes, make up, books or magazines.4

I made a curry last night, not a proper one, just out of a jar with some frozen chicken, but it worked out at me spending 79p on the sauce rather than £2.99 on a ready meal.

Oh I had an electricity bill yesterday, my current DD is £48 per month, and they informed me they were increasing it to £80! I rang them to complain and they reduced it to £55 per month. I really need to attempt to tackle my energy bills, I'm dreading what they will try and do to my gas DD is they put the electric up by that much.

    Morning all

    Yesterday's spends:
    £1.45 - newspapers x 2
£1.68 - packet of Bon Bons and a Yorkie. (this was really naughty of me, I didn't even eat the Yorkie cos I ate so much carp yesterday, I'm going to try and be good today though but I'm terrible when it comes to boredom eating!)

    Money in purse: £47.80
    Money in bank: £856.63
    Days until Payday: 26
(I have a nasty feeling that I have more money left than I should have. Nearly £1000 doesn't seem right somehow but I'm sure I added up right)

    Last night's tea: Shepherds Pie.

I'm going to do grocery shopping today at Farm Foods and Aldi (which are next door to each other). I've never done a full shop at Aldi before. There are a few things in the freezer but DH is suffering really badly with a dental abscess (on antibiotics) so he can only eat soft stuff (hence shepherds pie for tea last night LOL). I feel really sorry for him, he's in agony (today is day 4 of antibiotics so I would have hoped he would be in less pain by now).

I need to buy a new shower, and a large rug to hide the filthy living room carpet. Next door neighbour is a sparky so he said if I find a shower I like, he will try and get me one cheaper and he'll fit it for me next week.

I think I might treat DH to a couple of drinks in local ale house if he feels up to it. Haven't been out in ages!

I'm also going to try and have a spring clean of the house this week. There are 7 rooms in the house (including 1 tiny bedroom, 1 tiny bathroom so I will count them as 1) and I'm going to try and de-clutter as much as I can. Might need to hire a skip? Ok - daft question if anyone is reading. There is a council tip nearby but I have never been. I understand they have different areas for recycling rubbish types, so do you have to sort your rubbish out before going? or can you just go along and dump black carrier bags of carp?

Oh, just thought I would update my loan totals:
    Loan 1: £4412.80 (29 payments left)
    Loan 2: £7095.86 (53 payments left)
I do have a third loan (car loan) with 26 payments left but it's with A&L and I have no idea how much the outstanding balance is. I borrowed £7500 over three years at around 10 so what's that? About just over £6000?

    Ours has areas like this:

    Cardboard
Books/DVDs etc (Goes to charity shop I think)
Clothes and shoes (Shoes have to be paired together)
Reusable electricals/furniture - goes to low income people in council houses who can't afford their own toasters/kettles etc
    Electricals
    Garden waste
Skip (Stuff so carp it can't be recycled)

Sort it out before you go is the best advice. At our tip they help you with the heavy stuff as well which is ace.
