Floozie's Lightbulb Diary

I’m starting a diary to try and keep myself on the straight and narrow.
I found the website www.whatsthecost.com and did a snowball and was really shocked to see that it would take me 6000 months to pay off my Alliance & Leicester Credit Card if I didn’t get my act together and get our debts paid off. <cue lightbulb moment>
So – here I am. This will be my thread for the next 63 months (monthly payments £500, will aim for more, obviously).
We owe a grand total on credit cards and overdrafts of:
MBNA – 9600 – 34.9% -
TESCO (me) – 2750 – 16.9%
TESCO (dh) – 2500 – 16.9%
HSBC – 1000 – 16.9%
Natwest O/D – 1200 – 20.9%
HSBC O/D – 819 – 20.9%
Additions – 179 – 0% (as long as I can get it paid off within three months).
Grand Total: £18,048.
The minimum payments on the above total in the region of £500. Although I am not currently paying the Natwest Overdraft back. I am, however, paying the HSBC overdraft back at £120 per month.
We have quite good wages coming in each month and I am sick and tired of having to pay out loads of money on servicing our debts, so I’m now going to become thrifty and wise, instead of spendthrifty and stupid.
Thanks for listening.

Have you done a SOA yet Floozie? It might be an idea for some handy advice (or link to an older one, if you have one that's been lost in the mist of old posts)?0

Hi Floozie!!!!! :j Glad I saw your diary / thread (whatever you would like to call it that works for you!)
It may be beneficial to post a full SOA when you can (I think it is at the top of the forum in the starting bit (I know... that makes no sense!) But I managed to find it - or someone will be along who is a little more web-savvy than me and send you the link!:p
By posting your SOA you will get loads of advice as to where it may be possible to shave a few pennies off your day to day living expenses and help you shred your debt even quicker!
I have subscribed to your diary and will keep popping back with words of encouragement, support and general praise to help keep you on track!!
:beer:start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225
end = Mon 28th Sept 2015 DEBT FREE!
I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!0 -
Hello, thanks for your replies. The figures above are a bit preliminary, they might be more, they might be less! I tend to shred all my statements as soon as I have paid them, and the next lot aren't due in yet. I just thought I would start it now because I get paid on Monday.
Also to add, we have three loans which I am not including in the total of the debt, because it's the credit card & overdraft debt that I want to pay off. The loans are due to be paid off in: March 2010 (pay £134 per month), January 2012 - £138 per month and October 2011 - pay £234 per month. They are all on good interest rates.
I did apply for a Virgin card but got knocked back, so I daren't apply for any more cards.Start Date: 27/11/2010

Hello!
Just wanted to let you know that you had another subscriber0 -
And me too,good luck!!

Mwahahahah – what a good job I didn’t seal SIL's birthday card! We went to Greece earlier in the year and came back with some change. I put it in a cupboard and forgot about it, until now. Sister in law is going skiing and asked for money for spends for birthday and Christmas, so saving myself £10 sterling, I am going to give her e20 notes + 3.55c, which is approximately £21! The likelihood of me going abroad soon enough to miss e23 is minimal, and I would rather have the £10 sterling!!!
I'll post an SOA later when I get the time.Start Date: 27/11/2010
