I just got sent home from work, I may feel better but I must not look that much better! On the plus side it's FREEZING out there and I really wasn't overly keen on standing out in it for 7.5 hours! Also they are having a student night on Tuesday so I can pick up some work there. It does mean that I have to make one nights wages last the next 2 weeks for food shopping, but I have my tavel card for the full month so I think I should manage. NSD 4! It's all good!

AND I just got another 10p on the TAB scratchcard!

Hi got another 10p TAB scratchcard and 10p Butlinsbingo scratchcard, I also managed another NSD bringing current monthly total up to 5! Will go shopping tomorrow, but thinking of buying UHT as I am short on fridge space, it's cheaper, I drink skimmed so can't really notice the difference and I can buy enough so I don't have to nip to the shop midweek to stock up, thus increasing NSD's.

I'm quite convinced that despite the wages setback, I can close in on DTDT in this next month!!!!!

I rounded my income down and my expenses/bills up to nearest £5 in my financial forward planning diary, so the amount I have excess I have just paid off my CC1! £1.38!

    It's all good!

CC1 interest was added today, £43.88!!!

I have agreed to do an extra night tomorrow to try to make up some of the money I lost having last weekend off, which means I have 4 nights of work and a full uni timetable. I have to travel to zone 5 on GP placement Wednesday morning and my new NI direct debit advice arrived this morning which I had not accounted for in my dd's despite knowing it was coming doh!

I really want to have cc1 cleared, it currently stands at £838.52. (however I am certain that the £1.38 has not come off it yet!) so now I am on a mission. If I can clear this in good time I will also gain a lead on DTDT (always the competitor) Double satisfaction. If I can end the month with CC1 paid off, lead in the race with DTDT and win on NSDs? TRIPLE satisfaction. Hmmm how many days left in Jan? 14. +28 in Feb, thats 6 weeks or 42 days hmm,... Roughly £20 a day or £140 a week.

What can I sell, I am sure I have a spare kidney lying around here somewhere! (just kidding)

Justruth - that had me laughing out loud about the kidney! I like your challenge within a challenge though to get that credit card paid off. I've broken my cc into £50 blocks as it's a lot easier to acheive a target then and motivates me to doing it faster. Just an idea.

Determinedtodothis - you might have paid out for now but I bet you're going to save money in the long run as what you've bought is cheaper than gym membership.

Good luck both of you xx
  • Thats a wicked idea mudbath, short term goals that seem easier to acheive - i guess for every £50 to sucessfully pay of it spurs you on..

I hope so i got it all really cheap my trainers were £20 and they are proper running shoes got to look after to old feet :-)

Hey DTDT, yeah no point wasting money on trainers that don't actually do the job.

Mudbath Yeah, I like the idea of the blocks, I am sure I can manage 42 * £20 bit's, £20 doesn't feel like a massive chunk, it's somehow more digestible. I got my day wrong for the GP placement which is a relief (pleased I didn't already buy the ticket!) It's Thursday morning so shouldn't be too tired when I get there.

I have started looking at academic competitions that I could enter, that would be useful to my course as well as to my financial future! I remember there was an essay competition running a while back so I may see if that's still going. I'm not good with essays normally (let's not be rude about the length of my posts!) but then I figure I may be in with a better chance with this than with a nationalised mainstream competition.

Still making my 20p a day in scratchcards too!

Had a NSD yesterday, but not today. Still I'm now on 6/13.

The essay competition closes 2nd Feb, so I will have to get moving if I want to enter it, but I think I will give it a go. Even if I don't win I think the subject matter is interesting enough to look at properly and the practice will be worthwhile for written work to be submitted later in the course.

At the extra work session last night they informed me that the club was now opening on Sundays as well from February, but only short hours. On the one hand I am not keen to infringe on my sleeping time any further, but on the other I met the guy who I would be working with, who is well connected and may potentially have work for me at the O2 at a club which pays slightly better and is an easier commute for me, so I won't take as long to get back. The problem (or not) is that it is open till 6.30 / 7am which messes up the weekend more but I only have to work 2 nights. I think I would prefer the hours I have now. It's a thinker though.

I have also decided to give the lotto till the end of the month, if I do not win so much as £10 I will stop. It may sound silly but I like the chance that fate could intervene and change my life. However on the realism front, it's unlikely that I will win and as such I am just paying an idiot tax, but if I get just £10 then the amount coming back in means I have played more or less for free for the month. If I do stop then that covers most of my NI DD. I think it's about time I stopped hoping fate will make things happen for me when I am perfectly capable of making them happen for myself.
