Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I have another question, I read somewhere that broccoli seeds are really good for you and v tasty too - but a small packed costs a lot of money for what it is - where can I buy the stuff in bulk, once I try the small packet to see if I like them? Thanks

Mung beans do have the skins come off - did you soak 'em over night before you put them into sprout?

We always soak them overnight, drain, rinse and leave on the draining board and then as I do lunch/dinner/breakfast I rinse and drain them again. They are usually ready to eat in about five days.

This site is very enthusiastic and has lots of information

With the mung beans, did you keep them tilted upside down to drain between rinses?

I used the wide-necked jar and popsock (till I hunt out some muslin) rinsed 3 to 4 times a day and in between times kept the jar upside down and tilted. I followed these instructions from some links posted earlier and they have worked really well.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

Yep I once had the same problem with some mung beans from my Ethnic Greengrocer. Basically I think you just have a poor batch of beans. I then bought some organic ones from the health food shop and they sprouted fine.
  • Well I first bought them and soaked them overnight, then the next morning I rinsed them and then put more water over them and left them til the evening (when I got in) and then rinsed them again and left them in water til the next morning, then rinsed them again, put them in water til I got in that night etc etc etc and have been doing this the last few days. Is this wrong? Should I not be leaving them in water?

    Help!! :p

Go for it ladies, I'm sitting here munching on my new alfalfa sprouts. They are so quick!

Has anyone done mustard or brocolli yet? Do they taste good?
