WOW well done strepsy. Also lovely thick in a sandwich with whatever, cheese, peanut butter, ham. A mug of soup as well and voila it is a meal!!
couldn't agree more ... I just had tuna & mayo with capers on wholemeal, topped with my home-grown alfalfa, & a bowl of pea & ham soup I made in the SC yesterday

    absolute heaven :)

EDIT ... I grow mine in an empty dill pickle jar, you get them (full of pickles :D) in Lidl for 99p. nice big shallow jar with a wide neck, perfect for sprouting purposes

    Hi Quasar

Which pulses do you sprout and do you treat them the same way as beans, pls?
I would love to try this out as a cheap addition to dieting. Need to lose pounds there as much as I need to gain them in bank balance!

I don't know if this helps Katy, but I also need to lose lbs, I sprout mung beans every week.2 tbsps soaked in water overnight.Drain them, put in a biggish jar with a bit of muslin or old tights over the opening, secure with a rubber band.Keep in a dark cupboard, and rinse with water about 3 times a day. They sprout after a couple of days. They are delicious in salads and stir-fries.I reckon they're much more nutritious in the winter than out of season, imported salad stuff. ;)

Ooooh, I'm going to try this!

Do try it, it's great fun to do and to eat. I used a wide necked large jar and a pop sock and it worked really well.

I've done mung, have aduki almost ready and am starting alfalfa today. Next I want to try wheat as it sounds delicious.

Don't forget if you end up with too many you can put them in stir fries and stews... and if they grow all together in a big rooted mess... you can chop them up and eat them anyway <G>

Can any experienced sprouters help me. For financial & environmental reasons (and cos its the only "veg" my OH will eat without prompting lol, weve tried to sprout mungs.

I bought a bag from our local "ethnic" grocer ( TKS mung beans 500g for 69p) seemed a good deal to me! So weve had them in a tupperware, rinsing before and after work and before bed, theyve been moved onto the window sill in the kitchen to see if they'll move along a bit. Theyve been going for 5 days I think, but not muhc is happening  The skins have come off most, and they have a tiny sprout, but nothing muhc doing. I got this tecnique off the internet somewhere - is it going to happen? Or shall I just bin them and start with the jar/tights combo. Should I have done anything to the beans before putting in the tupperware? Just enough cold water to cover the beans. am I doing it right?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
