Wow Kittie, that is quite a production you have got going there, it sounds fabulous. I must try the almond sprouts, yum!

Austin and Swan, the onion and garlic shoots are a great idea, I will try those for when I want a more delicate flavour.

I have never weighted my mung sprouts, it looks complicated, but does produce nice straight sprouts.

Is there anyone out there using a 3 tier biosnacky?

I've just bought one from charity shop but there is no instruction book.

What are the red plugs for and how do I use them?

    Thanks Arty!

Had a read but I'm still not sure what the red plugs are for. Each tray has a draining channel - are they supposed to fit over there?

Also, it came with a nice load of white fleece circles, which I assume are for small seeds, but it also came with a black fleece circle. What's that for? Or is it just a bit of packaging that you chuck away?

It sounds to me like you put the red plugs over the drainage hole but make sure that the next two tiers have their plugs NOT directly underneath any of the others!
I don't know any the black fleece is for.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how quickly things are moving with the sprouts. I started of with black eye peas, mung beans and lentils, soaking them overnight at room temperature.

I have been rinsing them trays through twice a day with a pint of water, giving it about 15 minutes to drip through, and then tipping the trays gently to get any remaining standing water draining through. The whole stack sits on my bathroom windowsill downstairs.

The mung beans are about 1.5cm already!

I have another question...am i supposed to cut the sprouts away from the seed, or can I eat the whole lot, seed and all?

You can eat the whole lot. I prefer the husk of if possible so I'd give them a good sharp blast of water and a swirl by hand in my colander, that seems to loosen many of them. But they are harmless.
Yum, they just taste so fresh I might have to get the lentils old pop sock and a jam jar out now!

  • When is the best time to eat sprouts?

I like to eat them when the first signs of shoots are just starting to come - they seem tastier at this time and I have read that it is at this moment that their nutritional value is most potent.

However, I have read elsewhere that it is more beneficial to allow them to grow for a few days first.

Does anyone know which is correct?
