sprouting seeds**to eat**

I bought a pack of mixed seeds from the health food shop and they were absolutely delish. I can't remember the name/make as I split the bag with DD and she ended up with the original, but it was a big bag of about a kilo. It was a mix of lentils, sunflower seeds, alfalfa, chickpeas (?) and stuff. Sure it wasn't biosnacky as their packets are usually tiny. I'll try and find out the supplier....

Sounds great! What happened with the sunflower seeds? Did they develop a proper sprout, or was it really small?0

Yes they did have a sprout and leaves too IIRC?

I had mine on the window ledge in the kitchen, so they got quite a bit of light, and it's pretty warm in there. I tried doing some mung beans in a dark container to make them longer, and they went mouldy...combination of being too closely packed, and in the dark???

Yeah, ours are in the kitchen too. I might have just packed them too close together. Have some more on the go at the mo, so we'll see how they turn out!0

I have to admit, we haven't been sprouting for very long, and the first time we did I was really disappointed in the result. It was alfalfa seeds and I thought they tasted like grass a bit too! But I think if you try eating just them (a big pinch) by themselves, you can taste the nuttiness of them. Where did you get your seeds from? And where did you grow them?
I got them from the garden centre, they are Unwins brand and had them growing in the sprouting thing in the kitchen but it gets no direct sun. Was in the bin section in homebase so took it.0 -
harvested them this morning apart from the mung beans which seem slow, will make a salad tomorrow. soaked broccoli and red cabbage today for only 3 hours and put them in and have more mung, alfalfa and fenugreek soaking, will do them all in the dark this time and see how they turn out0

Just been on Approved Foods website this morning, and they have about ten varieties of GEO seeds to sprout (organic ones!) at two packets for a £1 (various weights) and also in the GIFTS section a £4.99 book for 99p (Sprouting for health guide)

If they went mouldy, chances are they were too wet. If you want fatter beansprouts, you should ideally add a little weight so the sprouts have to push up harder and that builds them up. To make sprouts longer, you need to leave them growing for longer, if that makes sense.TL0
