I make carrot or celery soup, for instance, quite often but although they are quite thick in consistency there is little protein in them. The sprouted beans look quite attractive and add something visually. I will try a few added to a vegetable curry at the last minute just to warm through. I have had more success with the process of sprouting this time, but as I work at home I have vigorously rinsed the jars each time I have made a cup of tea, etc. and it has certainly avoided mould. Is there a list anywhere on OS of recipes for using sprouted beans and seeds?
I remember being told that sprouting beans and pulses are more like vegetable because they have a low content of proteins.
Can't remember where I heard this, but found bits of info that seems to confirm that (particularly considering that boiled beans are heavier than raw sprouted beans).

I'm still going to sprout beans too, I think they are a great addition to salads etc. love this thread0 -

I've just found this offer (it comes to £9.70 including postage), seems good value to me, although I don't know if these seeds could be cheaper somewhere else.

It's not a bad price but not good either. Have a look here, although they don't do mustard and cress:

I looked at this website, but their postage for a few bags was £3.95, so I went for Sutton's offer. Aconbury may be cheaper for larger quantities though, I didn't check.
PS the advise about not eating certain beans is very useful, thanks.0 -
Have just been on Approved foods they have lots of seeds if you are ordering from them anyway they are 2 for £1 and there is a guide under the gifts section for 99p HTH PollyJBFF # 20 NSD 12/25
Jan Grocery budget £77 /1000 -
I'm just venturing into my first bash at sprouting seeds after being inspired by this thread,am impatient for my lambs lettuce to be ready to eat and loathe shop bought prices of pre packed salad stuff
i had a packet mung beans and alfalfa seeds in kitchen draw for ages so thought it was about time i gave it a go..using the "jar method
didnt have any tights to go over the top but did have some very fine cotton canvas from needlepoint (my eyes cant even see the holes to stitch that now:D) so its recycled and put to use secured iwth the kilner lid seems to be doing the job after the initial rinse
shall keep you posted on how i get on
happy sprouting

me 2, me 2 !!!!! :j
I've got my sprouter delivered, a cheapo 3-tier but not self-draining.
I haven't received my seeds yet, so I bought some dried mung beans and chickpeas and will soak them overnight.
Can't wait!!!
PS is the lamb lattuce sprouts or proper leaves?
I'm also going to try micro greens, expensive-sounding name for what is basically the same principle of the humble cress...0 -
lambs lettuce is proper leaves i luv that stuff
have t growing in a seed tray in compost on my widow ledge i sow it regular for a ongoing suply but it never lasts:D
i grow cut and come again leaves like that too0 -
Found this randomly looking about. Not sure if its a good price but its free shipping. £4.25 for a two tray Thompson & Morgan Sprouting Seeds : Seed Sprouter Unit [02570187]
http://www.capitalgardens.co.uk/sprouting-seeds-seed-sprouter-unit-02570187-p-18986.html
Obviously the money saver would be recycling a jar stockings and a rubber band I would have though
Also to comment on the certain bean being poisonous. I looked into soy a bit and it looks like they need to be cooked. I don't know if the same goes for kidney but it seems that they can be especially toxic to tread with care!0
