    My frozen roasties are fine but I don't put them back into oil for the final roasting - just put them on an oven tray. I think they have enough oil in them from the first roasting and they just crisp up beautifully. Try it.

    That just may be the solution!

    I will try again this Sunday with next batch and no further oil and/or butter. Thank you..

    They are best cooked from frozen with no extra fat added to the second cooking. A little tip that zippychick taught me was to use a potato masher (gently) to squish them a bit which makes them more crispy.


    I do this once they have been in a hot oven for about 10 minutes and are almost defrosted.

    I wonder if sprinkling with a bit of flour/cornflour would help with the excess oil/lack of crisping?
  • I don't add any oil or butter I just put them on an oven tray which I preheat. Nice and crisp every time. Good luck.

    I agree with monnagran - they will have enough oil left on them. I always use a dry tray with frozen roasties.

    I scrape the outside of mine with a fork which probably has the same effect. Lovely and crispy :j

  • I always use Maris Piper or King Eddies, parboil them, drain well, open freeze then pack them up ready for a roast every week.
    I never bother to pre-roast them.

    When I need them I make sure the oil (just a little - groundnut with a little bit of meat juice added - be careful - it will spit) is roaring hot, sprinkle a chicken (or veg) oxo in the tin, chuck in the straight-from-the-freezer spuds, turning them so that they get a touch of oil over the tops and bung 'em in the oven for about 45 - 60 minutes on the highest setting.

    Without fail they come out incredibly crunchy and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside......my Xmas roasties are sitting in the freezer as I type!

    Will roast the frozen spuds without ANY further oil/butter.
