I also freeze par-boiled potatoes to make roasties. When I have boiled and cooled them I spray them with oil then open freeze them on a tray. next day I bag them and can then take out the exact number I need - give them a little spray of cooking oil and they go in the oven.0

Quick question about freezing roasties.
My oven element went last night just as I was about to put the roasties in. They'd been par boiled, seasoned and tossed in warm oil (not hot, that's how I knew something was wrong) I knew I read on here that they could be frozen so bunged them in a bag and chucked them in the freezer.
Just though I'd come here to make sure I read right, when low and behold, everyone has said about open freezing them on trays and bagging them the following day. So, the question is, have I broken them by missing out this step?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Hi they tend to stick together if you put them straight in a bag thats why it is best to open freeze then bag up later.
If you are going to use them all at once I would defrost them and then very gently seperate them then carry on roasting as normal1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480

Thank you, I gave them a bit of a shake this evening, they seem to be quite separated, hopefully they will be ok. However they come out is better than throwing them away I guessAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Hi all.
Made a batch of roasties And froze them about a month ago.
Took them out Sunday and without defrosting, put them in a tray of hot oil and a bit of butter.
I thought they would be lovely. They were edible, but they were soft and squidgy.
Any ideas where I went wrong when I first made them? Should I have defrosted before re roasting?
I par boiled the spuds, drained well, placed a tea towel over the pot to dry out further.
Placed them in a dish of hot oil and roasted in the oven until they just turned colour.
Drained the oil and cooled them down.
Am so disappointed.0 -
I don't know to be honest, I have made some this year, hope mine aren't a disappointment, and will have to try some now before I use them for people coming.
I can't see what you could have done wrong though...I wonder if it depends on the type of potato used.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I wasn't too enamoured when I tried it either, mine absorbed far too much oil when I re-roasted them.
But I only ended up freezing them because my oven packed up half way through cooking a roast, so it was still better than binning them.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
