I got a nice Barbie musical dressing gown for my daughter today which was reduced from £16.00 originally to £4.20. You press a button and it plays a tune. Also got a school cardie for £1.80 and a nice pair of jeans for £3.00.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us

It's on the list in post no 701 as closing on 27th. I'm not surprised, they don't seem to have much left. They also have the signs up about not tolerating abuse to staff. A lot of their toys seem to be on sale in the new Bargain Madness store (next door to the closed down Focus!).
thanks for this .. I didn;t even know they had a bargain store down there might try and take a look tomorrow before i go on my jollies :T

my local woolies is closing on the 27th i asked today , i noticed the toaster i got 20% off a couple of weeks ago now has 40% off , all stationary is 40% and all cards are 60% but most of the shop is 30% except chocolates 10% and cd's dvd's 20% , some off the shop has been closed off so its now about two thirds the size .
  • It was mentioned in the Mail on Sunday financial section last weekend that Woolies were actually buying more supplies in to sell in the sale. They realise they'll sell them as people think they're getting a bargain.

Even with the "Up to" 50% sale, Woolworths are more expensive than Argos, Tesco, Sainsbury etc. for most products. It wouldn't suprise me if this was all just a stunt to get rid of their unwatned stock. Then all of a sudden they get "bought out" and are reimaged for second quarter of next year.

Woolworths, and any other company that uses that kind of signage deserve all they get. I understand it's not the staff's fault, but whoever okayed this whole sale and the signs deserves a thorough beating.

As a shop Woolworths should have shut up shop a while ago. They do not offer a particular service better than any other shop - Jack of all trades, master of none. Their non-sale prices have always been a joke. They have been pretty much stuck in a rut since the mid-90s.
With the rise of the bargain shops (Pound Stretcher, Pound Saver, Pound Shop, etc.) and internet shopping, most similar high street shops have had to re-evaluate their tactics / prices.
Just look at Zavvi for the prices Woolies should be charging for their media; Adams for their kids clothes; Argos for the toys and household bits.

as much as i feel sorry for the staff, i was really pee'd off today when one of the women workers went mental because someone knocked over some packets of seeds and didn't pick them up. it makes me angry too and i picked loads of clothes up that people just left on the floor, but her anger was aimed at everyone who was near and i didn't appreciate her 'that's it, just leave them on the floor, i'll pick them up' and her 'i've had enough of this', when i worked in a shop, we saw it as part of our job to tidy shelves, pick things up from the floor etc, after all, they are being paid to work!

    *rant over* :D
