Got loads of wrapping paper, school plincil and sweets. I spend a good amount of time in Wools looking at stuff and the toys .... We also took several pictures for me and my children to remember this shop. I explained so my 5 year old that Woolworths is closing down because it has run out of money. We are both sad.

  • My local Woolies has also had to put up notices about not tolerating physical and verbal abuse.
I spoke to a member of staff who said some people were behaving appallingly, so much so that she would be 'glad when we shut'!

Let's hope the New Year brings good news to the Woolies staff.

It ought to go without saying of course.

Our local store has those too. I noticed they were in much bigger print than the 'Up to' on the 'up to 50%' signs.

It's not surprising that people ended up thinking that everything was 50% off.

It is not surprising that those people who can't read or can't be bothered to read the signs ended up thinking everything was 50% off.
  • Or those people who hadn't brought binoculars with them. The 'up to' is about 15 times smaller than the '50%'.

  • Even with the "Up to" 50% sale, Woolworths are more expensive than Argos, Tesco, Sainsbury etc. for most products. It wouldn't suprise me if this was all just a stunt to get rid of their unwatned stock. Then all of a sudden they get "bought out" and are reimaged for second quarter of next year.

Woolworths, and any other company that uses that kind of signage deserve all they get. I understand it's not the staff's fault, but whoever okayed this whole sale and the signs deserves a thorough beating.

As a shop Woolworths should have shut up shop a while ago. They do not offer a particular service better than any other shop - Jack of all trades, master of none. Their non-sale prices have always been a joke. They have been pretty much stuck in a rut since the mid-90s.
With the rise of the bargain shops (Pound Stretcher, Pound Saver, Pound Shop, etc.) and internet shopping, most similar high street shops have had to re-evaluate their tactics / prices.
Just look at Zavvi for the prices Woolies should be charging for their media; Adams for their kids clothes; Argos for the toys and household bits.

Indeed it is which is why it always pays to read the small print.

Not that is is that small given the size of the posters.

Mind you all a bit academic now anyway.
