  • I agree that many of the items are over priced and can be bought far cheaper from other sources. However, the childrens clothes are a good buy with 40% off the last marked price and school uniform 60% off last marked price. They have some really nice fleeces and chunky cardigans that cost me £2.70 (originally £17.99 - wouldn't have paid that though!!!) I have even managed to get polo neck jumpers for DD2 for 60p (originally £7, reduced to £3, then £1 and then 40% off.) Can't complain from the clothes point of view - entertainment etc is rather dire and not remotely in line with other retailer prices even after the discounts.
  • If any of you are reading this, the Catcliffe woolworths (big w) has hearsay tshirts lol.. think they were 75p...

    Hth :rotfl:

and i do agree here with slummymummy, i've had some right good kids clothes from there this week. Fifi jeans, tops and denim skirts, ITNG shirts, pj's and tights.. all under £2 :j
Certainly made xmas in our house better...

That doesn't give them the right to treat customers like that, no matter what the customer did. The customer could have made a complaint to the manager and the staff member could have found themselves out of the door quicker than they thought, plus they would forfeit any possible redundancy payment that they may have been entitled too.

I can only speak for our manager at the woolies where I work, but he wouldn't have fired us. People are looking at things then throwing them on the floor whilst they look at something else.
I work on the clothing department and I have been pushed out of the way by customers wanting to get to the items I have been trying to put on the shelves.
The way some of the customers have behaved has been atrocious
I caught more shoplifters on Thursday than I have in all the 12 years I have been working for them
Should I have just said nothing to these customers?

dippydiane - I really feel for you, I went into Woolworths and could not believe the way people were behaving. Nothing gives people the right to behave badly, especially towards the staff who are having a difficult enough time as it is. You are perfectly right to speak to people who's behavior is unacceptable especially if they are shop lifting!

Hope your last few days working there are not to bad.

Jetty, the thing is they are NOT being paid to work. They have been told they might end up having to claim through the administrators once the store is closed down. Which could take months! I was there the other day and all the chavs where in there throwing things over their shoulders they did not like and trying to rob what they could. So think what these poor staff members are going through on top of the fact they might have no job for Christmas and no money!

as i said, i do feel very sorry for them (and i'm sure i heard that they will be paid, but would have to claim redundancy) but i wouldn't expect to be spoken to like that by anyone in the retail industry, especially as i didn't even do anything and was trying to help out by picking stuff up on my way round! Not all us customers are chavs who throw things around or try to steal, she should aim her anger at them or the people responsible for her being out of a job.

i really do feel bad for you, and i do say things to people, but luckily, i can. I couldn't believe how rude people were in there and was knocked several times and had my 4 week old baby in his pram being battered about. Quite a few people got the f word from me and there was minimal name calling (believe me, i was provoked!) and i did feel bad for the worker who was ranting, my point was, she was ranting at the wrong people, not all of us go in there and turn into arrogant idiots.

  • In my local woolies I managed to get a dvi to dvi lead for 60p these were £10.00 originally but are instore for £1.00 and there is a discount of 40%.Blank DVD's are not bad value at £2.49 for 10* 16 times speed woolworths brand.I also noticed that cd's and dvd's without cases are being put on shelves these priced at £1.00 less a discount.Pillows and duvet covers are a bit overpriced but i may buy if they take more than 60% off.Microwave ovens are £20.00 including 30% discount but simular ones were for sale in Morrisons for £17.49.All the Thornton chocolates they sell are well overpriced. ...There seems to be loads of desk fans for sale but they are not shifting (but in the summer one could be handy) so I expect these to be heavily discounted shortly.
  • i got a few little things today, like a pair of thick ribbed tights for 30p:D
    THANK MEEE:j

do we go to the same store i went in there this morning and couldnt find any of these all the books were overpriced

I personally marked these books down Friday morning! There were loads of CHILDRENS books on the ground floor that were reduced down to 50p!

I couldnt fill the shelves fast enough as customers were getting them from my trolley, so they must have all gone.
