I went to 3 stores today (all along my jouney route, otherwise wouldn't have bothered), and bought in 2.
I got a Lazy town dressing up set aged 2 to 3 yrs price tag at £16 reduced to £8, for £4, and then in 2nd store a Tshirt priced at £4.50 for £1, and track top (missing bottoms) of Iggle Piggle priced at £14 (bear in mind no bottoms) for £3.
Both times I asked, as busy as they were, for the manager and asked for his best price. They both said I had a cheek and one even took a few minutes of me convincing him that if he sold it to me today for less, seeing as no-one else would buy incomplete etc: it would be less for later.
Just for being cheeky and asking I got much better reductions.
Also just to say I would NEVER have done this before I joined MSE.
    Worth a try IMO.

We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars........................

Okay, so technically not profit, but their losses have "improved".
The fact that comp sales are up 1.6% is a good sign for them, especially as that doesn't take Christmas period into account.

Funny how a retailer being £20 million odd in debt is classed as an issue, when football clubs are in far worse situations.......

I do feel for employees of Woolies, because I'm fortunate to work for a retailer that's ridiculously seeing improvement. One of our main stores took it's best sales in 14 years last weekend!!!

admist all the bargain hunters this morning  there was a "pixie photo" set up in my local store "least thing on there mind i should think". good ploy though got many more people back instore, including me, but you can only "cry wolf" so many times.

  • I went into Woollies, last Saturday, also Tuesday, and Today Thursday. Nothing has changed, no prices been more reduced since those big posters went up last Sat. I left disappointed today. £10.50 for some socks, some pants and a knife and fork set for my daughter. The pants were lazy town, socks just there brand, and Disney Pincers knife and fork set. Was shocked to be honest at the price, as expected them cheaper! 30 percent off clothing, and 30 percent off utensils. 20 percent off toys and 10 percent off video games, consoles. 50 percent off junk!

Think it's a huge con, to get people into the shop. If you put Woolworth's closing down sale con in google, you'll get reams of sites saying that too!

It's a ploy to get people in the store.

Having said that. I am sad they are closing. The town I live in is small, and there is to be honest only woollies, apart from rubbish shops. Where will I go for my toys, utensils, and the wide variety of items woollies sell. Been going to woollies since I was about 2 years old!

Feel sorry for the staff too.

i really wanted the peppa pig drive and draw and all i saw was thomas and dora and noddy. shame as i live a fair distance from any shopping/town centre and live in a smallish village/town so is a fair old trek for me. biggest store we have is a coop.

Apologies if already posted. Was in my local Woolies in Elgin and they had £25 Vodafone top up cards for £12.50. I grabbed 3 as stocking fillers for my kids.:j

Walking past my local wollies in Ilford today. I couldn't help but notice the ridiculously long que to get it. It was around noon and they were letting people into the store in groups. I had no plans to stop but on my way home I cought them opening the doors, so I followed everyone in. Very few items were 50% off mainly 10-30%. I walked around the whole store of two floors and onlt picked up 3 small thing, which I didn't really need. Every 10 minutes they kept saying on the tannoy, "None of our tills have bags". Well aint that great. None the less I qued up for 15mins to pay. Staff at the tills were so rude to so meny people, I stood there open mouthed listing in shock to the the way in which the spoke to customors. They got security to remove one guy because he told one member of staff to have a bit of manners and not talk to him in such a discusting way. Anyway I paid and got to the door only to have to que to leave as they were checking everyones reciepts as they had no bags and people were walking out goods in hand. I waited 20mins to leave, longer than it took to reach the till. What a waste of time.

can't this thread be closed or moved? it's people going on about the same thing, nothing to do with a grabbit and going completely off subject!
