Woolies - closing down sale tomorrow (11/12/08)

Anyone (myself included) who thought they would get a massive bargain on dvds, consoles or games is seriously deluded.
I was at the Watford store at 8.40 this morning only to discover no change in the pricing. Even the woman on the till said there would be no change when I asked her
I'd hoped (stupidly) for 50%+ off Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but in reality it will NEVER happen.
Woolies stockists (Entertainment UK?) are in serious debt to Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft as well as others, so there's no way Deloittes will allow them to take a hit on gaming items. That's why it's 10% off on items that were already 20% above the rest of the market.
At worst Deloittes will sell the items to other retailers....
Anything of high value is either:
a) being held back in the stock room in the hope of a buy-out
b) being sold at 10-20% off in order to ensure cost and some profit.0 -
I managed to get 4 DS Lites, 3 Xbox 360's, 2 PS3's and a partridge in a pear tree.........all for £4000

are you taking the mickey even with the 10% off it would cost you more than 400 pounds for instance ds lites are 109 pounds x 4 = 436 - 10% = 43 pounds so youre looking atr 397 so your telling me you got 3 xbox 360s and 2 ps3 for 3QUIDReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
Some people seem to have a misconception of how closing down sales work. You start of by making mainly 10 to 20% reductions, perhaps with a few greater reductions, and sell as much as you can, so it's the same as the existing sale. As time moves on and you still need to get rid of stock those reductions increase..
It's not a misconception. Most shopping-savvy folk understand retail discounting.
It is the NEWS COVERAGE that has created unfounded expectations.
I see now that BBC news 24 is including interviews with union reps; seems staff are taking the brunt of shopper's confusion / disappointment. There is no excuse for abusing staff, but the power of television to misreport should not be under estimated.0 -
My in-laws are the sort that the media are targetting with these reports.
They're the sort who would buy an item from Woolies or another over-priced retailer who advertises a 20% sale, despite every other retailer selling it for less even after discount.0 -

I think its called a p*ss take, wow some people take things far too seriously on here, well I got LOADS of schoolwear all for £1-2, jumpers and cardigans which were much needed for £1 each.
I also got the PSP crystal case cover for 45p amongst other bits.0
