I went today and went down every aisle and came out without buying anything! What is all the fuss about? There were no good offers out of the ordinary that i could see?? I went in prepared to spend, spend, spend but didn't part with a penny! Frustratingly average kinda sale!:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

I went to my local in N Ireland today. Was c**p. Same sale as last week. Mostly 10% off everything. And no electricals or anything you would want to buy, just the ususal rubbish that is left at the end of a sale. It was packed though!
It was funny watching people rush through the shopping centre to get to Woolies! There were people racing each other and everything!:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
I went to my local one while I was in town, knew before I went I wouldnt get anything, but as I was in town I thought I would go. The queues were so long (dont think people realised you could buy the same stuff elsewhere for less) it would have taken ages to get served, the queues met in the middle of the shop from tills at both ends
Most of the stuff I saw was pretty much rubbish and certainly not worth queueing to get it
Feels like its all been hyped up to make people rush in and buy stuffWeight Loss - 102lb0 -
I went in to wollies on Saturday, it was busy, but no lines at the tills. I got a cupcake baking set that was marked at £10, the shelf said 20% off but when i got to the till it was only £6.40, I also got a vase, that was marked at £5, )already down from £10) which i nearly didnt but becuase i did think i should spend that much on a vase for me, but i thought i would treat myself as it said id had 10% off, at the till it rang through for £1.40! Awesome. So dont let the shelf price put you off, they are obvioulsy taking more off at the tills in some stores. I got 40-75 off stuff that was listed as 10-20% off. My vase was almost 90% of the original ticket price. I am well chuffed, i have managed to get my friend a really nice birthday present and a real nice treat for me. I consider myself very lucky.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0

I went in and SO wanted to buy something, but even in my 'spend thrift' state couldn't find one thing that I wanted to spend my money on, a sandwich toaster looked appealing for about £3 but then again so did the other 10 sandwich toasters I have probably purchased and chucked away over the years !, seriously, I am one for buying useless objects but there wasnt even anything I would want to buy, 10% of DVDs and CD's makes them still about 30% more than you can buy them online, rolls of wrapping paper for a £1 which you could get down a market for 50P and loads of boxes of Jelly Babies/Wine Gums and so forth that have a small reduction and no comparison for the deals in Mr T or similar. I do feel sorry for the staff what a time to be made redundant.0

More likely its because they're reporting live from outside stores that say 50% off in huge font. You can hardly expect the media to start telling viewers which items are cheapest.
Why do you think they are there:rolleyes: Because Deloitte announced that yesterday that they had not managed to find a buyer and that they were having a closing down sale from today. The reporter can see and has been told that the sale does not amount to much yet they still lead it as they were told.0 -
Just returned from two London Woolies (smallish stores, not the big one's you see on the BBC) & can confirm the sale is the same as last week.
Massive queues to buy items at 10 - 20% off. Stooopid people.
However, I think it usually takes time for all the stores to adjust to sudden price drops, - get the right signs up etc, - so my tip is unless your woolies is plastered with the closing down sale posters the BBC is reporting, do not go in.0 -
