Ah, and one more tip- Try and pay cash to speed the queues up- The card machines are really slow :j0

glad i read this thread first before going down there, and for all the people saying i'm glad i got off 10% etc what you have to remember is you must have a certain amount of surplus cash
where the average person doesn't so yes people are looking for sale of the century with an actual 50% off.
spend now worry a bit about it later on cos next year is going to be a whole lot worse with the recession starting to take a real grip and say the companies that are holding off job cuts they prob start feb-mar when they realise it isn't going to pick up much as they wanted.
Don't get me wrong i feel for the woolworths staff i do but the reality in this world is dog eat dog and if it was you with no money/food what would you all do?
Also it would seem it is being ran the same way MFI was run down amazing UPTO 50% off the clue is in the word but the amount of people that i saw down there then didn't want to feel they missed something or wasted the petrol was unreal so they bought like idiots i just walked away. I was after a cooker hood that had 20% wow but was £150 in there down to £120 could have got in comet for £120 without any discount and with a shop to go back to should the need arise.
Anyway they where saying this morning it will all be wrapped by year end which is about 3 weeks time so i would expect to see discount get bigger.
The admins are only doing there job which is get as much money for the stuff left after all they goto pay themselves some huge amount same as mfi did first axe falling in the year which i belive was kroll and they made about £250,000-350,000 for 3 weeks work not bad they saw staff paid in stores on the weekly wage and then when it came to redundancy gave them some government forms to claim it from them which can take upto six weeks to get and only about 90% of it, happy Christmas for mfi staff NOT.
Just hope the poor woollies staff don't get the same treatment. I just wonder who will next be down the pan i had heard JJB sports are in real trouble also Focus diy stores had staff clearout earlier in the year due to finical problems.
The bargains will becoming thick and fast 2009 wonder how much for the retail sector will be left after the smoke clears?

I went this morning and got a portable mp3/iPod speaker for £2 :j and a travel size radio with a stand for £1!
They had quite a lot of bargains overall I thought, was just MANIC. People going MAD over things you can get for cheaper in Poundland next door etc.

I agree it is very sad that Woolies is closing down but i must admit that it was quite dissappointing to go to the store today to find the sale being exactly the same as it has been for the past week or so.
I wanted to get there myself for when the doors opened but had my nephews nativity play to watch and was feeling quite gutted that i couldn't get there on time, so i was half expecting to get there too late and see a near on empty store but it was the complete opposite.
Good luck to all the Woolies staff out there though, you have done us proud over the years!! x x xJust under £20,000 in debt and struggling!!0 -

I went to the Sheffield Parkway (Catcliffe) Big W store this morning. Usually opens at 9, but today was 9.15 - absolutely rubbish!! Waste of time!
There was a huge queue at 9am, so I nipped in Morrison's next door to keep warm! At 9.15 everyone had gone in.
The reductions were rubbish, as everyone on here is saying.
I saw Jamie Oliver for DS for £30 and then 10% off. Sainsburys are doing it for £25 and you can buy it online for £17!!!
Saw a paper cutter for £4.99 with 10% off - I bought the same think in Poundland.
What a load of rubbish and a con - even on Radio 1 news this morning it said it was a closing down sale. Everyone was pushing empty trolleys around.
(I have only just got home and cannot use the internet at work!)0
