Woolies - closing down sale tomorrow (11/12/08)

Interestingly I was eavesdropping on a staff member in Wilkos only today and she was saying she's been told she might lose her job because trade isn't good. This particular store is always packed so I presume it's the whole company, not just this branch.
Wilko's is bucking the trend and sales/turnover are good considering the rest of the high street.
However, they are shortly to implement some quite radical and new warehousing/shipping/supplier agreements which means they will not need quite so many staff in the background.
So the job losses rumour is true but not becuase they are going under.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
Doesn't it say up to now or 50% off everything0

Just to clarify.. The posters (All stock 50%) on the front of the woolies doors that were shown on the news (ITV) isn't the reality? Isn't that false advertisement?“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0

Thank you Woolies, while people queued for an hour at the tills today with baskets full of junk that wasn't really cheap, Wilkinsons was quiet where I found lots of things I actually wanted to buy!0

I have just been in Woolworths in Sheffield and it is a lot busier then yesterday. No further reductions on anything as far as I could see, had to leave after a few minutes as it was so crowded.
Lot of people heading to the till with baskets full of items so either they have made a big trip especially and don't want to leave empty handed or they consider them as bargains, or both !!!
I think the hype worked !!!
As a little foot-note, as I left I looked across at Debenhams and they had 50% off signs up...as I got closer I noticed in small letters it said "Childrens Slippers", they're all at it !!!0 -
It was mentioned my my local paper that they were getting rid of some jobs in the distribution and warehouse
I think most companies are looking at there over heads, some are cutting jobs or not replacing ones when people leave.Wilko's is bucking the trend and sales/turnover are good considering the rest of the high street.
However, they are shortly to implement some quite radical and new warehousing/shipping/supplier agreements which means they will not need quite so many staff in the background.

The new posters with the massive 50% off sign stil have 'up to' written in tiny writing, impossible to see unless you are up close to them.now has her .com delivery but doesnt know where to put it0 -
I just went to local and left quite happy with what I purchased.
There were items 50% off but nothing i wanted and most of it was gone.
I did get 20%, 30% and 40% off items so left happy.
I was just grateful for what i got, why moan?
Be happy, it's christmas!!!2013

The media have a lot to answer for. They whip up a frenzy on everything and the sheep all fall for it and follow.
This is a classic case, as was the Brand/Ross carry on. Just 2 complaints until it was all over the papers a week later.
Journalists, hang your heads in shame.
I think you are missing the point Woolworths was a doomed business. The media are actually helping them at this point. The aim is to clear as much stock as possible and get the cash in.
Huge free publicity.0
