There wer no further reductions in our local in Worcester as yet, BUT it was chaos - queues from one end of the store to the other. Crazy. Just got one thing I actually needed and used up a voucher - this particular item was reduced from £25 to £10 then a further 20% off so did well considering it is needed.
Didin't buy anything else though.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

It was on TV today, many shoppers leaving with low value items and feeling like they have been duped according to BBC 1 news0

The fact is that today marked the first day of the official closing down of woolowrths, they have realised they will not be saved. The sale is now being classed as closing down, not just discount. It is sad that the media encouraged people to think there would be different discounts today. Many people have been mislead. I hope they do have more discounts but I am glad I stayed at home this morning as I just couldn't believe they would suddenly cut prices that much.0

i went in to my woolworths and the sale that they already have up to 50% off toys and entertainment and choclates 10% some gifts up to 30% off and homewear so no change not like thy are saying on the news, a lot of people got to tills expecting 50% off not the case and lots of people left with nothing.
Some costumers was arguing with staff saying was on the news clearence sale. lookis like a publicity stunt to get shoppers in stores.
I do feel for the staff as the abuse they are getting from some costumers. 11th december 20080 -
Anyone else getting deja vu?
Makes me wonder why Woolworths didn't pull his trick years ago, it might have held the admins off the door for a few more months. If they have big cheeses that are willing to manipulate the media and can create such (apparent) hysteria, why are they going under? Oh yeah, because they're an overgrown newsagent, not the British institution they used to be.

I don't know where the nonsense came from about a massive sale but the management must be thanking them...
The 'nonsense' came from the administrators announced a closing down sale starting today, Sky news is leading every hour with 'Woolworths closing down sale'
Next week you may have Sky News announcing woolworths are having a buy one get one free closing down sale (cards, paper plates etc:rolleyes: )
Lots of free publicity through the media, well organised. Woolworths will end up getting rid of tons of physical stock. Job done. Wages for staff. Bill from Deloitte.0 -
There is alot of slating of woolworths here, but in fairness its out of their control now. At least the website was shut down some time ago. It was misleading when they put up the `up to` 50% posters i agree. But no-one has said closing down meant even more reductions.Did they?
We all like a bargain, but this is another example of how greedy we can be.All the best to the staff that are losing their jobs. I still hope that at the last minute someone jumps in to buy it.

The media have a lot to answer for. They whip up a frenzy on everything and the sheep all fall for it and follow.
This is a classic case, as was the Brand/Ross carry on. Just 2 complaints until it was all over the papers a week later.

Yes they do. They dont care, its news for them
The real losers are the staff though at the end of the day, and its was said by there union many have worked for many many years. No one wants to be in there shoes right nowThe media have a lot to answer for. They whip up a frenzy on everything and the sheep all fall for it and follow.

Just to clarify.. The posters (All stock 50%) on the front of the woolies doors that were shown on the news (ITV) isn't the reality? Isn't that false advertisement?0
