my woolies had announcements that the discounts that were shown (up to 50% off) were as good as it was going to get. they were also having to announce every 5 mins that everything was not half price like the news and radio were announcing. people were going in and clearing shelves until they heard this!
What's for you won't go past you

People expecting consoles and games at 50% off: Its never going to happen. Administrators will sell them for more elsewhere.
  • A complete load of rubbish in Salford, the vast majority of the stock is just 10% off, certainly could not find any bargains. Very poor

They are not helping themselves with the purposefully misleading up to 50% off claims and the generally poor price tickets / made up higher prices.

Most other high street stores have had 20% off promotions, yet Woolworths is closing down and is only offering 10%

Just went into Peckham branch, was jammed packed with que's through the door.

Got a few bargains, there is another 10% discount taken off at the tills.

Glad we got there early. Think it will get more busy through the day.
Back to square one, no apg, no comment.

It was a waste of time and parking .Discounts were definately not worth the queue of about 40 mins!
    I just left with nothing.

I do feel sorry for staff though. I heard one staff memeber telling someone that loads of their staff had rung up sick today! I don't blame them but talk about putting the rest of your team in the poo!

Never believe everything you read posted on MSE - take it with a pinch of salt. People posting misinformation and whipping up eager savers into a frenzy, causing queues for non events, wasted journeys, raising expectations.

So Woolies sell items for £6.30 that are a fiver elsewhere - what's the loss with Woolies closing. About time these rip off merchants were removed from the High Street if they think they can run a business like that.

Any well run business wouldn't need to close down the first sign of a dip in sales. Blame the management, clueless, sat on their backsides running Woolies into the ground while Wilkinsons come along and copy how Woolies use to be, Wilko stores are doing a roaring trade.
  • Good thing I checked here before walking into town! Having being made redundant a couple of years ago (though thankfully we were given notice just before christmas so had a bit of time after christmas before we were of a job), I know how miserable it can be so I do feel for the staff and the managements decision to not produce further reductions after announcing the closing sale can't be making their lives any easier with customers moaning and complaining and getting the wrong end of the stick about the "50%" sale.
  • there is further discounts today
clothing is now down to 30% off, and was 20%
    THANK MEEE:j
  • Surely people would save more money but not spending just because its ''cheap'' never understood why people go mad during sales

So, I've been watching the news all morning and it seems that Woolies could still be saved, some buyers still interested in the business and are trying to strike a deal with the banks. I'm going to make a prediction..........someone will step in at the 11th hour and save it! I hope so anyway, but I would still love a real 50% off EVERYTHING sale lol

ETA: I think there is only a few days left for Woolies to be saved, if it's not saved the reporter on Sky said they will be closed BEFORE Christmas
