Woolies - closing down sale tomorrow (11/12/08)

  • Went in to my local one first thing this morning.
Absolutely pathetic - same sale as before.
The entire electrical /DVD/CD department remains overpriced with goods (even after the 10% discount) way above Internet prices.

    Good riddance.
  • I went in this morning and there was absolotely no difference whatsoever to the price cuts that they had already had the other day when I went in.

A few items were reduced by 66% or 70% but these were larger toys that were overpriced anyway. Pretty much everything else had 10, 20 or 30% off and as the prices were not particularly good anyway in comparison with the internet and supermarkets I came away with nothing. The only thing that tempted me was a football poster for my son reduced from 3.99 to 1.99 - The queues were so longt that I could not be bothered.

I think the closing down sale being reported everywhere is just an attempt to get people in the stores.

No doubt prices will come down over the next few weeks, so I'd say don't make a special trip now, wait until they put some proper reductions in place.
    To infinity and beyond!

A close friend of mine is a part time manager at the Heanor branch and she has said that they've been told to withhold "expensive" stock out back to see wether they get a bidder to take on the chainstore and if not then that stock will be sold on as wholesale to make more money than if they sold it on to shoppers at rock bottom prices.

And the Heanor store has been the busiest its been in years so in her words "Its good for the staff" so don't feel so guilty about grabbing a bargain- It could very well be helping keep the store open a bit longer (I put in that bit!!!).

Quite stupidly though I didn't ask if prices would continue to be reduced over the weekend but I will do...

I wish i'd come on this thread again before i'd left for the BEckton store as i could have saved myself a wasted journey. There are loads of people in there and it took ages to get there from Dagenham because of traffic all for nothing. The sad thing is it's worked as all the people there are queing to buy stuff thinking they are getting a bargain.Take the quality street for instance, they are £7 in there with 10% off so £6.30 when you can buy them for a fiver in Morrisons and all the others no doubt.

  • Well that was a waste of time, yeah there were discounts but most were 10/20% which isn't really worth the queue and traffic!
  • went to bury st edmunds store today alot on the shelf still but prices no different from the days before...childrens clothes 30% off dvds 10% off
  • That wasn't much of a wasted journey then, as said before this is nothing new, same sale prices that were introduced last week just more miserable looking faces behind the till.
It's more than a little sad to see how empty the shelves are getting and it's a little difficult to believe that my son won't really grow up pestering me for a toy from woolies lol.

I agree, when you walk down even bigger towns (not cities) these days, take away charity shops, mobile phone shops, card shops and takeaways there isnt much left - in fact if it continues, i predict many towns will be ghost towns -

    and hairdressers.... :p

I'm glad myself - working today so can't get down there, shame though, was really hoping to try and get a couple of games half price, but I did think it too good to be true.
