If your after bargain, you may want to approach the manager ask him /her you want a PS3 (or whatever) *wink* *wink* and pay him/her with cash round the back.
That's what everyone has done at our local Focus stores the last few weeks....0 -
I'm just glad that they're not closing their doors immediately. I spent 4 great years working in my local Woolies, and it's still about the best fun I ever had at work. I adored that job.
I'll be back that way over Christmas, and I will absolutely have to go for a spin round my old workplace, as it'll probably be the last time.
I agree with what someone else has already said, though, that it's small towns (like mine) who will feel the loss the most. It will leave a massive hole in the middle of the high street. We don't have any of the massive supermarket superstores, who, I think, were Woolies real competition. It's areas like this that Wollies should have focused on, because they could have thrived there, and shut down some of the stores in larger towns where there is more competition from large supermarkets/Wilkos etc.0 -
Same here but a guy did have 40% banners- I saw him put these by the bikes/trikes and he went off toput some elsewhere but don't know where.

Just back from my local:
After speaking to the manager, there is no closing down sale starting at this time. All items still discounted are the leftovers from the ongoing (up to) 50% off sale.
The place was heaving with chaves queuing 60 deep clutching anything they can carry, only to be told that the price is UP TO 50% off certain goods. Woollies are causing a feeding frenzy hoping to catch a few mugs.We are the change we wish to see.0 -
Just got back and there were loads of people at my local store and loads left on the shelves but no real discounts, just the 10, 30 & if you were lucky 50% they were already doing. Came away emptyhanded but then I was looking for a bargain on PS3, didn't think I get it and I was right!0

I agree, when you walk down even bigger towns (not cities) these days, take away charity shops, mobile phone shops, card shops and takeaways there isnt much left - in fact if it continues, i predict many towns will be ghost towns - just like the uSA - and ultimately the town planners and local government greed are responsible to some extent.
I bet most woolworths stores will become wetherspoons or split up into multiple small units - (aka another charity shop/mobile phone shop or mcdonalds)0 -
The store at Worcester this morning was putting out tannoy announcements that there is NOT 50% off all products and that all discounts are clearly shown on each section.
So same discounts nothing new. As per usual the media hyping up discounts by calling it a "Closing Down" sale. The sale on at the moment is the closing down sale. Shelves looking a bit empty already.
Good luck to all Woolies workers for the future0 -
Will the likes of Wii games be reduced in Woolies?0
