Local store to me (Glasgow) was very quiet - a few people in but no queue at all. Possibly because it was the same sale as last week.
  • so do we think there will be more of a sale by the weekend?

I would expect more of a sale within the coming days.

I wish Sky news would stop saying Woolies are having a massive sale starting today!!!!!! THEY ARE NOT!
  • There was a large queue in belfast. Once we got in i saw one of the assistants was tittering to herself saying "The prices are the same as yesterday".
  • i wish everywhere would stop saying that! i feel sorry for my sister she's currently getting pushed and shoved round wollies for no reason! waste of time
  • Human greed can be a very sad thing to withness. I think as much as we all like a bargain on this site and I do not deny anyone from getting a good bargain, I will be also heading to woolies to see if there is anything of a bargain to be had.

Everyone needs to really take a step back and give credit and a thought to thousands of staff that face 2009 with debt, job loss and worry.
Sales like this are all well and good and in this case can not be avoided but if you do buy something I am taking note out of parents book when they purchased some greetings cards from woolies yesterday, they wished the staff member the best of luck and offered a kind thought, the staff member was chocked up and said that is the best thing they have had said to them all day ;)

And of course happy bargain hunting to ya all.

  • Went today to the Walthamstow High street store. Nearly everything was the same, and no 50% off everything sale or anything, but had to buy a few things anyway, so no big deal.

I asked a guy working there about it, and he said that it says in the back that everything will remain like this for at least the next two weeks (By Christmas?) while they try to find a buyer for Woolworths. He said that there is no doubt that there will be further discounts, but nothing major. However, he said he has also been told that if there is no buyer then, and only then, will there be a massive sale to get rid of all stock, then close down the store.

Looks like no big bargains to be had till at least after Boxing Day.

I'm putting my bets on a 50% sale just before xmas, maybe next weekend and then after that maybe the 75% before new year and with any luck, following suit of Focus and MFI, a £1 FINAL DAY SALE :-)))))

  • My mum went down to the Woolies in Coalville (Leicestershire) to try to get me a PS3 and a game or two in the closing down sale this morning. No PS3s at all in the shop apparently (the staff have probably had them all, and who can blame them!) and they were trying to sell the PS3 version of Singstar for £22 without the microphones - no wonder they're going under when Amazon are selling the exact same game for £15.98 with free delivery and that's without it supposedly being on closing down sale prices!!!
