Wont be going to Woolies tomorrow as its too far away from me on the bus, but I will be really sad to see it close
and feel sorry for all the staff losing their jobs at this time of year.
Wealth can be measured in many ways...not all of them by pence and pounds.;) :happylove0 -
i'll pop in tomorrow as i work across the road from it, but here's what i expect:
i WONT see:
*any reductions worth buying
*any good deals
i WILL see:
*loads of people buying crud they don't need at a price they could beat online
*long queues for the tills, courtesy of the "herd mentality" of ill-guided chavs> http://www.nationmaster.com/wikimir/images/upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9b/Supermarket_Sweep_Dale.jpg

Oh so there is no 50% off everything???
I'm getting confused - signs up saying 50% off all stock in shop window but its not true?? Isnt that false advertising?? Is that allowed??
Iceland are meant to have purchased 50 of Woolies stores, so thats a good start!! :-)))) (According to todays Sun)0 -
I didn't mean that people on THIS board were making up bargains - I meant the Woolies managers were making up bargains. For instance every year on Xmas Eve Woolies pulled huge amounts of items out of the stores and put them on shelves. Miraculously (perhaps because it was Christmas) this NEW stock was placed on shelf already pre-labelled as 50% off. Blatantly made up sale "bargains" that had NEVER been on sale at the full price in most stores.
In the current sale Woolies has been putting up 10% or 20% off, as if these were real bargains, but actually some of their chocolate had been INCREASED in price (e.g. Cadbury's Heroes had been £6.99 a tin in the 3 for 2 sale, but were increased to £7.99 a tin before the 20% off bargain appeared).
It is this supposed bargain creating that I was commenting on - it assumes that Woolies customers are stupid, which they are not.
Tomorrow though we will begin to see the real bargains - and I'm out at work all day so I'll miss it
I popped in to my local store today and bought a few Christmas decorations marked as £1 each. With 30% off, this made then 70p. When I got them home and peeled of the £1 price labels, there were other price stickers underneath saying 50p!!!!
So yes, the 'sale' wasn't such a bargain for me in this particular case!0 -

i do hpe the staff are getting paid on a daily basis, in case it goes pete tong by the weekend. expcting people to work on with no guarantee of being paid must be very worrying.

There isn't any signs saying 50% off everything, the signs up currently say "upto" 50% off everything.
The stores haven't recieved any new posters for the "closing down" sale0
