Can MSE please create two threads - one to discuss the bargains and offers from Woolies, and one for people to discuss how sad it is that staff are losing their jobs/why Woolies deserved it etc...
There are going to be some true bargains in the next couple of days (not the made up ones of the last few days) so people will want to concentrate on those.
I doubt VERY much that consoles and game hardware will be 50% off, but many of the games/DVDs/CDs might have massive reductions.
You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.
  • i am fed up with people moaning about each other on this thread it is ridiculous!!!!!!

everyone knows that woolies is shutting, so why not let people get a bargain , at the end of the day they are shutting and there is nothing me nor any other moneysaver on here can do about it!!!! ( i know that is harsh but It is FACT)
just because in every post people are not saying " oh poor staff etc etc" doesnt mean that they are not feeling for people that are going to be made redundant!!!! it must be hard for people, and obviously we all hope that they will be ok. but ...
like some one said earlier, it is not just staff at woolies that are losing their jobs IT IS NATIONWIDE in all different trades . ( its all over the news!!!!)

which is why people are soo desperate for a bargain ( even if it is only a couple of quid off)

i'm no moderator or anything off the sort but maybe we could all stopping gripping at each other and just post of here regarding any bargains that are known to be reduced any further or bargains that people have got.

after all it is "supposed" to be the season of goodwill.

Oh for goodness sake I am sick of reading comments like vultures and taking pleasure in others misery. The fact of the matter is Woolworths is in administration, it has happened people coming on giving their condolences is not going to save 25k jobs, the administrators have to offload the stock and get money for it as quickly as possible and sites like this are helping that to happen, there is no point in money sitting in a warehouse and staff not receiving wages because people feel sorry for them and are not buying goods.

Everyone loves a bargain and are glad to get one, this does not mean people are glad to see shops going under nor are they happy that thousands of people are going to be jobless soon the two do not go together. Everyone was talking about the M&S 20% sale and the bargains to be had and not be had but because the store was not going under and jobs weren't threatened that was okay? Why?
People aren't actively seeking the closure of a store they are just making the most of it doing so.
  • You make me sick. That my last word. Justify all you want now. I wont be reading it.

Why would anyone make something up about a bargain.Who would gain out of that, is that why you asked me about my bargain i posted today cos you thought it was `made up`

I cannot believe what I am reading. Do you really not want people to say that they feel that you are all acting like vultures when this is such a sad time for many people.

It's not just the 25,000 people that will loose their jobs. It's all of the small towns and high streets where Woolworths plays a key part. What will this mean for the other businesses already trying to compete against the huge superstores.

Go out at 8am and complain about only getting 50% off a Toblerone....I hope it bloody chokes you. This site is about saving a few quid but it is possible to save money without lowering yourself to the vulture like behaviour I have read on these boards over the last few days.

I apologise to the large group of people that have contributed to this thread in good faith. I am aiming this at the select few who have shown absolutely no tact or morals in their quest for getting something cheap.

Jesus Christ its called a recession! Calling people vultures and then hoping they choke on a Toblerone is just doesn't really help your point does it. Its sad people are loosing their jobs, and its sad we're in a recession. Its also sad our government sucks !!!, and its sad that hard working people work all their life and pay tax to get nothing back in return, while lazy !!! bums do nothing and get everything paid for them.

Whats my point? Well I'm just really having a rant, but Woolies is not like the other small businesses people like you refused to support because their prices weren't competitive enough, so who cares if woolies goes down under, all the money they make now goes to the banks, so lets hope they sell everything for a penny!
  • OH NO!

I wanted to pop to woolies tomorrow, (I do every thursday lol) but now is gonna be bedlam!

All I wanted was a fleece throw to match the other I got last week. Not sure its worth the effort to queue though!

I have finished my xmas shopping so I dont need to buy anything else no matter how cheap!

I think everyones sympathies lies with the employees but this thread is not about that. I am sure there are many discussions taking place across the net re the staff losing their jobs! Some people really should get a grip and stop over reacting on a thread that's all about getting BARGAINS!!! FGS! Or should we all skulk away and hold our heads in shame? Times are hard for everyone at the minute, someones loss is always someone elses gain, that is a fact of life.
AGAIN, my sympathies go out to those who could be out of work this Christmas, whether that be Woolies staff or anyone else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please stop trying to make people feel guilty for being part of a group of people who are looking for bargains! If we don't go to Woolies and buy the bargains will it save their jobs??? NO, of course it wont!
  • Im sorry but I have to comment.

Im going to be one of those Vulture types tomorrow morning, Im going bargin hunting at woolies in the hope of bagging a bargin.

Im looking for bargins as like nearly everyone in this country the pound is not going as far as it once did. Im an Artic driver (agency) for Tesco. This week Ive worked 2 days (on one day I worked 6hours) last week I worked 1 day, the week before it was 2 days. Now my pay packet has to stretch further than ever before.

So, like many other people I look on the 'Grab it while you can' forum to find the bargins. And as wollies is having a closing down sale I will be there to get my bargins. Yes I feel for anyone loosing there job. But I wont let it stop me getting a bargin. if I dont get the bargin then someone else will.

Cheers and have fun shopping tomorrow

Our Woolies now has 50% off all stock posters in the window, they're different to the other 'up to' 50% posters they had so maybe this means there really are discounts to be had. Unless they've just printed the 'up to' even smaller this time
OMG makes me feel sick!!!!!!! i cant make it until friday eveing. GUTTED. consoles all half price OMG i wanna puke!!!!!!
