Daily 8th December

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for DECEMBER 8TH 2008. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning All

I didnt think I would be starting the daily but here goes :-

I had to get the sticky from above as I couldnt find the other thread,, I hope everyone is well and happy,, I woke an hour ago as DH got up for a p,, woke me up and here I am,,

    Hi everyone.

PenPin - sorry you didn't have a good night; hope you and OH have a good day in. So far, my G and E is working out about right and the direct debits have put me slightly in credit. I switched from British Gas to E.ON earlier this year and reduced my payments by £50 per month - I now pay £90 a month for dual fuel, but was paying £68 for gas and £72 for electric with B Gas. I still think £90 is scary but it's better than £140! Now, I'm dreading the Council Tax bill because I've heard some will rise by 10%! How they can justify it, I'll never know.

(((Hugs))) to everyone. Taplady - I hope Lesley has a good day today.

Dinner tonight will be bubble-and-squeak with sausages and beans, plum crumble to follow. I'm going to make some shortbread later from a recipe on the Be-Ro site http://www.be-ro.co.uk/f_insp.htm. There are some great recipes on there. I think it's been mentioned before on here so apologies posting the link again.

Well, I need to post a birthday present off this morning, do some ironing, some paperwork and run the hoover over downstairs. DH is still off but will be finishing painting the windows today and, hopefully, start back at work tomorrow.

Well, I'm off to have a shower now.

    Morning.

Work this morning and I may have to drive to London from Cornwall. All depends what happens up there and whether we get a phone call mid morning. Quite excited really as a bit of overtime and free meals on expenses.
No deal of the day today, I did not do any shopping yesterday. I did get some cup hooks, so that I could put up my Christmas lights,. I bought 5 sets of outdoor white lights in the sale a few years ago and never used them. I found out today that 2 sets don't even work. I can't take them back either.... bummmer. Still the house looks nice and tastefull.
I see you are talking about elec and gas prices. THE ONLY THING THAT HAS NOT come down!!!! About time it does. I bet their yearly proffits will be huge!
Diesel and heating oil are down.

Good news on my mortgage is that Nationwide have removed the collar, so I could ebnefit from the whole 1% on my tracker. fingers crossed!

Well have a nice day... time to make sandwiches, my least favourite job..
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

    Morning all,

I caught up with housework today. Baked & finished the rest of the cards off. It hasn't been as hot today so a good day to tackle jobs. I've run out of steam now but I would have liked to mow as well. I've got DGS the next four days so I wanted to get as much done as I can. I hope to make some Christmas decorations with him this week & we'll put the tree up as well. Probably Friday.

Our power is going up too. I think as of next years the increase is 13%. Luckily we're getting the solar cells. They're getting installed Thursday. Took a few months as it's proved popular. I helped DH build the scaffolding on the verandah yesterday. My arms feel like lead today.

Taplady I hope Lesley is comfortable today.
Moiliere I've never made shortbread before. Have you used that recipe before? Think I'll try some this year too. Mum made some each Christmas but I usually bought some. :o

Hope you all have a lovely day. <hugs> to those not well. Byeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Morning all,

It seems biterly cold here this morning the heating has been on for an hour, but it doesn't feel like it at all.

Lots to do today, dinner will be the roast chicken we did not have yesterday, we ended up with jacket spuds, as dd had eaten lunch out with her dad.

I also need to make soup and cookies, and do an online shop, and do my normal house work too.

Kaat, I also have a lot of spinich in my garden which will need using up, I might do soup as well.

Oh and I need to finish off my xmas cards, and at least try to get the overseas ones posted.

Well, better get on, hugs where needed

Aussie there's a shortbread recipe on here somewhere that's great for cooking with children.

    100g plain flour
    50g cornflour
    50g icing sugar
    100g butter

You just keep rubbing in and it eventually goes into a big lump. I've tried others, but this tastes the best and stays together enough to be flattened out and cut into shapes. Perfect for little people. I just flatten it out by pressing it down, no need to roll it or anything. Bake at 180C until they look cooked.....about 10 minutes.

Good morning, sorry can't stop, it's a work day today, yuk. I still don't feel great as I have a cold, but I always try and go to work. If I feel too bad I can come home.

    Take care all of you

In my calendar today - a robin :santa2:

Well I'm gonna be a right miserable moany cow by about 10am - I've run out of tobacco and there's no money in the house  Don't wanna hear 'you'll be grateful in the long run' or 'well done on giving up the cigs' (I haven't) cos that'll just make me even more irritable. lol.

There's a bit of handwashing to do and the animals need cleaning out but that's about it, so I'll just make more cards :D

Off to work soon, another day dealing with Bow's hysteria & Mrs Degree's temper tantrums, what joy.
I had quite a serious run in with 2 year 9 girls on Friday, so need to deal with the repercussions of that today, more joy.
Still at least the Ofsted is done & dusted, just the panic of the Mocks now & all the Christmas events.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

ps tru, I love the lyrics you post everyday, I means I start the day hummimg a Christmas song & I like that.
