This forum has become my first port of call on MSE simply because it DOES discuss the wider economy and its relation to house prices. With all that is going on in the global economy at the moment, it's not possible to have a sensible discussion about British house prices in isolation from everything else.
Surely?0 -
I am trying to think what IS a discussion about House Prices.... if you limit a forum to just that then you will literally have one thread per month for each of the 3-4 house price indexes that are published.
e.g.

The diverse discussions we have on all topics to do with house prices, what will affect the house prices in different areas, types of house price changes, reasons for a house price, reasons for changes in house prices, factors affecting house prices, Govt decisions that will affect house prices now - or have affected house prices in the past .... are all necessary.
My house price has gone down because the BBC laid off some staff and a neighbour changed their job and wanted to sell and BTL landlords stopped buying in this region because they couldn't borrow the money because of the credit crunch which was caused by irresponsible lending and BTL landlords are now defaulting on mortgages and the person who might have bought my neighbour's flat is in the car industry and might lose his job, especially as car sales are down 30-40% .... is all relevant.0 -

Surely? After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
I like this board as it gives me all the indicators of what is happening in the market which could have an impact on house prices, ok this may not appear to be on topic but really it is.
I personally don't visit the moneysavers arms, I looked there once and it seemed to be the silly convo's of everyday things....quizzes, general talk etc and not dealing with the weightier things going on in the economy, almost like one of the cheaper newspapers compared to the broadsheet we had here.
As an admin and by default, a moderator, of my own site, the posters wishes on the content of a board should be taken into account before changes are made, I usually find a poll helpful in garnering the views of the posters involved before actually making the change...that way the board keeps the friendliness, the posters are happy (apart from one or two who wanted to change/keep things as they were) and in general, the feel of the site is so much better. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I hve just followed one of the threads that was moved (this one here...follow link):

and have discovered that the article it links to is entirely relevant to house prices and mortgages. Really really don't understand the moves now!0 -
I've sent the below email to abuse regarding the 'Please stop arguing with each other thread. I'll be interested to see the response:
This thread is clearly not on the subject of house prices and should be moved along with all the others.

I have just had a look at what exactly has been moved....the heart has been ripped out of this board!
I would say 90% of those threads moved are entirely relevant to house prices as their content directly impacts on future house prices.
Edit - Is there an email addy where we can complain to as the abuse addy is not relevant to complaining to admin about threads/boards having the heart ripped out of them?We made it! I moved those threads over this morning, as most were not to do with house price's
Why move the one linked to above, whihc talks about buy-to-let mortgages?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

This 'house price' board was created to prevent people mentioning that house prices could and would fall on the 'House Buying, Renting & Selling' board when people wanted advice on buying a house - this was just before the house price crash started.
Clearly, the impending crash was the most relevant and on-topic subject anyone buying a house should have considered. However, those with a vested interest wanting the last few suckers to join the pyramid prevailed and the 'house prices' board was created to stop people mentioning that house prices could and likely would crashl. Those who came here looking for good advice were failed.
House prices were on-topic with regard to House Buying, Renting & Selling - nothing was more important at that time just before the crash.
Now the house prices board is being split again from economic discussions. Why I don't know. Clearly in the UK they are intertwined and it is hard to discuss one without the other coming into play.
This site is going to end up with too many rather dull static boards that people don't even see. I think that the 'house prices' board should be combined back with the 'House Buying, Renting & Selling' board - it should never have been created in the first place. The fact that it was just before the crash, for the reasons it was, is a real failure of this moneysaving site.0
