Might be obvious if you know already or have read the spec, but no-one has mentioned that this is a dual layer burner, which in my mind is what makes it a bargain. I've got one already which is sitting very nicely alongside my Pioneer DVD106.

Most current dvd writers are 16x dual layer, what makes this special or did, was the fact that it has joined the previously lone guenuine "all formats" LG dvd-ram writer, at the same time that NEC has released the 4550.
The free postage is what made this special, as lots can now be got from the likes of ebuyer, aria for less than £30, but the hefty £6.99 puts one off.

BTW PCW has/had the LG 4165 for £34.99 in store or £31.99 from its component shop.

If it is the 110d it goes back, anyone had experience with play.com returns?

  • at the moment the dual layer isnt really a viable option, at the moment its just too dear.

the cheapest discs i can find are £1.50 each.Better ones are £2.00
single layer are just 26p for a good quality make.

the burn speed of dual layer is 2.4 at that price too, for a faster speed the discs go up to £4

by the time the media is at a sensible price, new drives will be out, at the same sort of money, so hold off if you have a dvd writer that does the job perfectly well with regular dvd.

Hi peeps...be careful on this one, received mine today. they have sent a 110D...

Several people have been reporting this on other forums, looks like their entire stock is actually the D version and they have made an error on the site.

Still, it's a good price for those after a DVD writer and not bothered about the DVD-RAM write functionality.

Not really when it is the same price everywhere else inc p&p plus at places like ebuyer you can get it delivered with cheap media as well ;)

    eg:
    Ebuyer
    Pioneer 110D - £27
    50 Datawrite titanium dvd-r - £9.16
    Total inc p&p - £41.08

Mine is going straight back to play if they deliver the 110d as that is not what I ordered.

    Hi,
mine arrived today and it is the 110D.
Is there a big difference between this and the one without a D?
    Sorry but a bit of a non-techie.
    Thanks,
    finc.

On eBuyer the 110D is £26.99 plus supersaver delivery = £31.73

£29.99 at Play plus 2% off with Quidco = £29.39

Where else have you seen the 110D for £29.99 including delivery?

The 110d is a slightly earlier model that reads dvd-ram discs but AFAIK does not record to them.
the 110 reads AND records to RAM, thus can be used as a removable storage device like Iomega Zip or Jazz drives, but with much greater capacity 4.7 gig or 8.4 gig effectively a removable hard drive, as well as being a normal dvd writer.

hence not the one some of us thought we were getting.
