the thought of getting impetago - spelling? - worries me cause my wifes brother had it, and he was in a right state, but that was years ago, before zovirax, cymex and even tea tree oil, but i'll try that too. thanks kavakava. :)

if toothsmith reads this, can what you recommended be bought over the counter, or should i just ask the dentist?

    thanks,

    mike

impitigo and cold sores are not caused by the same thing c/s are viral and impitigo is a bacterial infection and thus are not treated the same c/s are treated with antivirals eg aciclovir and impitigo is treated with topical antibiotics eg fusidic acid

I got a few tubes from poundland a few weeks ago too...just a cheap version of zovirax.

I get coldsores in my nose after a bad cold too...most disgusting

cheers for that ailuro, i thought i was the only one

and some of those women and their suggestions :o they'd make our lass blush - take note AussieLass, Maisie and all ;)

i'm going to get some antibiotics. the wife got some boots version of zovirax cause it was 'cheap'.it was cheaper than zovirax but not cheap the way i'm using it. i couldn't breathe through my nose before, but with a nostril full of zovirax and boots' equivalent, well, it's not easy :o

    but i'll live.

    i hope!

    ;)

    thanks all

Zovirax can work out expensive if you only need a couple of applications as I throw the tube out after used for one person

Mike55, Antibiotics are no good for coldsores. C/S are the result of a VIRAL infection of a nerve ending, antibiotics only help BACTERIAL infections. This is a common misconception that many people think that antibiotics cure anything. THEY DONT. In fact, AB's are causing huge problems, including the spread of MRSA. Doctors are under tremendous presuure to prescribe AB's for colds and flu, coughs and rashes, when in fact, they can make some people feel worse. AB's can cause allergic reactions, diarrhoea, thrush ( they dont actually cause thrush, but they kill ALL bacteria including "good bacteria" that help to combat these conditions). Pleas anybody out there, try to sterr clear of antibiotics unless you have a genuine bacterial infection. Even then, most fit and healthy people can deal with this without, the human body is a wonderful machine, able to heal itself in all the the most severe cases. Hope your C/s gets better soon

    ... for all their replies.

And apologies for not saying it earlier. I lost all my topics when I took a 'break' for Christmas ;)

I'm still getting cold sores, and like a poster above had, one on my nose

They're nasty bloody things and as I'm at loggerheads with my doctor because he won't give me a prescription without seeing him, (maybe Toothsmith can help with that one?), but I had an outbreak and it's ongoing, but getting better. But it's still there.

I only use face wipes, and never transfer anything from my nose and lips, without washing my hands, but as one lot clears up, another one starts. Are they connected with styes (spelling?) on eyes? One's so itchy it feels like the beginning of a cold sore does, but on an eyelid.

Obviously I can't try all of the above suggestions on my eyelid, and I'm reluctant to go to the doctor, any other suggestions pls?

Now come on Sofa, you know the rules, and anything to do with your eyes GET YOURSELF OFF TO THE DOCTOR! Antivirals can be given orally, and that may be what you need!
