we have 13 cats, most live indoors,
2 are maine coons, one of them likes to go outside for a wander round,
one is a feral, he goes out all the time, but he lived out for one n a half years before he decided he was going to adopt me,
my babies go out sometimes,
most of the rest are finein the house, and wld get scared etc outside,
the brother and sister of the above feral, they stay in cos they are very scared about people etc, but are very cuddly,
too many to mention, but the live in only cats are happy.
we rescued.. an old one of a so called friend who never came back for him when we looked after him.
a female that had been living in our shed for two years, that turned out to be a cat that some people had left behind( she goes out)
i rescued two, one a very wildcat look alike, who acts like one also, and angel, whilst i was there a likkle black one kept calling to me, so ended up going back,
then ended up keeping some ferals that were going to be let bac out, but they were teeny weeny,
anyway, all from O.S.C.A.R, they are part of the cats protection.
we also help trap, n feed ferals now, as a thankyou for letting us have our gorgeous cats, wont be taking any more on.lol. and there was no problem with most being kept indoors.
i agree that id always have two cats not one, as they can interact with each other etc.
we have several cats that groom us, some wth tongues a bit too rough,
good luck with cats.THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.0 -
Buttonmoons,
I know exactly how you feel, my cat (he) is exactly the same. At the beginning, it was flattering, but now, he is a bit too much, I do wish sometimes he was a bit more independent.
I mean, I love him to bits, but he is constantly under my feet, I don't even know how many times I could have squashed him really badly. The worst is when I am walking down the stairs, he appears under my feet in the split second, I could have fallen face down thousands of times. Not very good proposition when my hands are full of sharp cutlery or wine filled glasses and plates with food.
And he wants constant attention, if we don't pay him attention (petting him, playing, feeding, talking), he miaows like crazy. When my OH and I talk to each other, he pushes himself between us and throws himself on this back showing us his belly - he hates when the attention is not on him.
I don't even know if they love us that much or are they just spoilt, clingy and egocentric, lol. The only time I have to myself is when he is sleeping, but even that he likes to do close to me, or from somewhere where he can see me/us.
I don't know if there is anything that can be done, it's just their nature. My neighbour's cat is very independent, goes out for hours at the time. I think it is just different character, that's all.0 -

I WOULD like another cat, just because everyone has a different personality.
My cat has taken to grooming me of late, is that weird? She will sit behind me and lick my hair, or start licking my legs. It feels kinda nice though :rotfl:
My cat does this if she happens to plonk herself down next to me to have a wash.
She's a rescue cat (abandoned in the house when the breeder moved away) so is clingy too but I think the behaviour comes from the type of cat she is (Turkish Van cross) - following us into the bathroom and sitting there watching you, climbing into bed with us (you should hear her snores!).
I imagine this behaviour would be more pronounced if she had never been allowed outside as that allows puss to display their 'inner tiger' which your mog doesn't get the chance to do.
Cats tend to behave like kittens when around their owners. Is she a rescue too?
Another cat would allow her to express some of her adult personality I guess.
She sounds lovely though. I've had cats all my life and love Sweepy the most exactly because she is so demonstrative and affectionate.
I hope things get sorted for you both.0 -
Well I didn't get her from a rescue home, but a friend of a friend, was going to be ditching her in the local cat & dog home, they were already full, so she was going to leave the poor thing in a box outside! I said I'd take it, and I'm glad I did.
It's just since she has had her lady bits removed that her clingyness has became 10X worse. I do worry about hurting her, because she is quite small, and is always dancing in around my feet.
Would be okay if she slept 16hrs a day like a normal cat!0 -
It might work - really depends on your cat though. I got a second one when mine was a year old, and it was a really bad move as she hated her and would hiss at her whenever she came near. That was 10 years ago and she still barely tolerates her.
Maybe a tom wouldn't be as bad.
Oh you've got me worried now.
We bought Molly in Nov 08 (she was 6 months old), had one of her litter mates been perfect we probably would have bought one, but I really wanted a colourpoint (exotic) & they are not common, so I've had one on order:D & he will be ready (13 weeks) at the end of this month.
Molly is will be 8 & a half months when Charlie arrives. we though she would love it, she came from a breeder with a house full of cats & she was wrestling (playing) with one of her mates while we were there:D0 -
I wonder if the Felliway diffuser would help the clingy cat? I know nothing, but often see it recommended.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Lol our cats do that too! I have a 1 year old and a 9 week old and the big cat is ALWAYS pinning the kitten down by his throat. The kitten loves it though, he just rolls on his back, starts purring and 'kneads' the big cat's face and neck.
Big cat has started to drag the kitten around by his neck though so I split them up when they do that, it's not very nice to watch. The kitten is so submissive it looks like he's dead!
The little kitten always goes back for more though. It's like he likes being beaten up, he never wins (or tries to for that matter!)0 -
Buttonmoons wrote: »Ok background - She is an indoor cat as I live in a flat, never been outside. She's always been clingy, following me everywhere etc, but since getting fixed, she's been untolerable! I can't even go for a wee, without her crying outside the bathroom door! I understand she obviously loves her mammy, but it really is getting out of hand, she's constantly under foot etc.
Is getting another cat a good option? So she has someone to play with? She's only just over 1year old, so I was thinking about one around the same age as her, and maybe a Tom, as I hear they are more tolerable?
Would 2 cats smell more? I scoop the poopys everyday, the money isn't a problem, Im just concerned about lack of space? It's a 2bed flat, so I guess thats plenty of room?
Any advice welcome :j
Good luck!0 -
Oh she does love catnip, she goes a bit wild for about 10minutes and darts around and then she will nod off, shame she managed to stick her head in the packet and gobble them all. I will pick up some more.
Yeah I don't think getting another cat would solve the problem, I would like another one but maybe in the future, when we move (hopefully)
I think when we DO eventually move she'd be happier as she would be able to go outside. I do feel a bit mean that she can't go out, but she never has so dosen't know what she is missing.
Thanks for all the advice folks. I do love the bundle of fluff, but it can get annoying when you are trying to serve dinner and you have her winding round and round your legs demanding attention and it's just creepy when I'm having a bath and she's sitting on the loo seat, just staring me out........:o0
